(split from V24 thread by JF)
I am far more interested these days in watching boats go racing, than competing! I guess this should be a new thread, but here goes - 2008 Round Britain.
7/1 Nick Gilley / Jon Fuller - will finish in the top 3 of the 2008 Round Britain. (overall places)
4/1 Greg Marsden/ Alex Rhodes will finish in the top 7 of the 2008 Round Britain. (overall places)
10/1 Mikko Oikari / Henrik Dahl to win the race overall!
If you want to bet please pm me. All profits go to the running of the race. All losses I will fund.

P.S I will put some more prices up if you guys are interested, but be aware that Fuller could go into evens as this is "his patch". - if that does happen I will lay it off to a Maltese bookmaker.

I too see Mikko Oikari / Henrik Dahl as (assuming prep & commitment is there) being overall podium finishers. Wouldn't like to say 'overall winners', but definitely right up there.
That 36' Mannerfelt, with 2 x Volvo D-6's won't be the quickest thing out there, but I reckon it's average speed is likely to be outstanding. Shame about the tubes.
FWIW, I doubt we have the size, or firepower to offer competition to the big boys, but are hoping for a reasonable showing in our own little, RB4 class. Of course, if we were to manage a better time than some of the boats in the class's above us, that would be a very nice bonus.

anyway I go on the name no good at looking at form myself dont know the trainers well enough! bring it on Ciao wonderful idea, we then can all get involved!

The commitment is there and I hope the prep will be there
The preparation begins next week with liftíng the engines and rebuilding the drives. The goal is to get 500 kilos of the boat during the winter and find some more power and speed.
My main problem at this moment is "prop" not "prep". We are doing 60 knots with the GR9-propellers but hit the revlimiter. This is with the 1,36 gearing in the DPR-drives. Talked to Volvo Penta but they are totally uninterested...
Sent a mail to the guys at "PropRevs" and they might have a solution.
But as "ciao" said. This maybe should be in another thread.
/Mikko

That's rather a poor show from Volvo!

Pity I can't take part in this as it is such a great idea but it would be a bit like insider trading. I know all the teams, the characters and boats and those who are determined to win and those who just want to be a part of the scene.
I will watch this thread with great interest because it's almost like betting on the Grand National, there is no way you can really predict the outcome, anything can happen at any time and as usual luck as well as skill plays a major part. However, when you look at some of the entrants you can't help speculate that the RB08 is going to be one hell of a race and I am very fortunate and privileged that I will be right in the thick of it! As JF said when he first started the RB08 thread back in October 1996, "I can't wait".

He's some poofter off the telly, and said in his TV show that you were very obliging once you were bladdered.
BTW, I'm tea-total, so no, not a drinking partner to anyone.

Dunno, but if he is, it's a no-brainer as far as 'overall winner' innit. I can't imagine he would even cross the start line in Portsmouth, unless he was 'confident'.

Predictions:
RB1. If he does it, Fabio has to be overall favourite, followed by the 36 Ocke & Techno 40, in no particular order (If Andy can keep the Seateks together) though of course Mikko / Henrik are not actually in that class. the two faves from RB2 are also obviously very strong possibilities here too.
RB2. Vee, or Drew, not too sure which. Team 'Arse Bandit 1' have a shed load of new kit, so potentialy good, but the team itself is an unknown quantity.
RB3. Mikko, followed probably by a 10M Scorpion of some sort.
RB4. Obviously I have to say US, but if Roy & Toby keep those egg whisks in one piece, they will be very quick and Roy is a very serious, commited and determined racer who I look forward enormously to lining up against.
The rest of the classes, I've no idea, except that Francis & Stuart will I'm sure go very well with the Shakespeare, as they're one of the few teams building a boat specifically for the job, and though it was a long time ago, they're proven to work well as a team.

The 'whisks' will be fine Looking forward to seeing what lump / lumps you have found to keep you in RB4!
