Round Mallorca Race

Are there any of you lads, lass's, with the right boats, that would be interested in the "round Mallorca race" I'm finding out more information daily about this and wish mine was bigger. I know what my next rescue venture will be.

Peter

Hi verytricky,

I want to be 100% before I repeat anything. Is there anything in particular, that you want to know?

Peter

Loads of stuff:

When would it be?
Would it be open to all boat classes?

I am looking for new challenges as I dont appear to be racing this year.

are you serious peter?that ferry between spain n the island is a small fortune, also it would need to be done between the hours of 5.30 am and all over before 11.30 am other wise its bad news with those big old waves that always seem to appear after 11.30 in the morning nearly sunk my boat last year !

Hi verytricky,

As soon as I get anything concrete I'll let you all know.

Hi Chris, As far as I'm lead to believe, yes. I think most of the European boats come by sea but yes, the Barcelona, Alicante and Denia to Palma are expensive. I can do it with a 6mtr camper van and the boat, for just over €600 return. Yes, the seas can change quickly, dependant on the wind direction. I delivered a 55ft motor sailer, last March (06) to Mahon, in Menorca. We left Port Bonaire at 6am, headed due east, for Cuitadella then ran down the coast, as I wasn't too sure of the boat. An 8 hour trip, with 5 to 6 foot swell, pushed by a moderate south easterly. Not the best crossing, rolling about all the way across.

Today was like a mill pond. Just got back from my local port (Calla Bona) and as far out as you can see, it's barely more than a ripple. Could change any minute and build up quickly, that's the challenge, isn't it.

It also pays to know the local fishermen; they know the waters better than any meteorological site.

Peter
