Does anyone know for sure if this ruling applies to basic (club) races this year?
Cheers, James

Helmets
Was slightly hoping this would come up tonight -
I spoke to JP about it today -
Seems like .... if your OOD lectures competitors in race briefing the difference between open & full face lids - it is then up to the competitor to make a choice.
I have emailed him for clarification in writing - but perhaps by then I will be looking after Cowes - The Centenary.

Well if you're working to the 2010 PB1, which you should if under the RYA unberella, rule F28 notes
'unless otherwise stated at the briefing, ful face protective helmets must be worn by all persons on board at any time the boat is on the plane including the journey to and from race, during practice or testing'
No mention of other types of helmets!!!
no good for canopied boats with escape air systems I'd have thought

Hmmm brave OOD? I presume V24 run under UIM rules as they are full canopy class?

Not very helpful for competitors with a roof - they will have to buy full face helmets to wear in case the OOD isn't brave enough to stick his neck on the chopping block - because that's what it will be like!

Rule does not apply to Marathon class !! Although it is in the Race Instruction Template !! Therefore I assume organisers could remove it from RI for Marathon.
Bob
