Am sure it was agreed that you can have as many day licences as you want this year just after 2 you will need to fill in a self declaration medical or get the medical part of the licence form done by your doc. This was done to encorage racers this year and in a lot of cases there is no licence cat for some of the boats! Basic cat maybe for next year least there would be a licence to buy!

Wide awake thanks (at work at 0625) (on a Saturday)....I know V24s can enter ...I'm saying I've been told by Cliff that they're not going, quite important cos he owns the one I would have been sat in.

Yawn......

O.K., thanks for that info, if the class 111's and V24's don't want to come and play I shall close the Poole circuit down and just concentrate on the Soton to Portland Endurance race. That's if any of the officials will EVER answer their mobiles, that doesn't include you by the way Shirley!

Change of Timetable

We have decided to reduce the timetable for the South Coast Marathon from a two day event to a one day event.

There will still be a welcome reception at 18.00 at the Royal Southern Yacht Club on the Hamble on Friday 16th Oct. As it's my final race as an Event Director (I'm retiring) you can come and buy me a drink!

However everything else kicks off very early at Drivers Wharf on Saturday 17th. Race start is at 12.00 at the East Lepe Buoy.

This is the third and deciding Heat of the 2009 Marathon Series. The Course (at the moment) will be straight out to Portland Bill via The Bridge and back via North Head to the same finish line as at Cowes.

Any Sports Boats who would like to come out for a final blast of the year are welcome.

Full details of the day on the BPRC web site www.bpbrc.co.uk

Not dependent on entries.

The BPRC thought it correct to hold the last race in the 2009 Marathon Series due to the fact that UKOBA declined from running the last heat.

If this is actually on, and date is confirmed, would a canopy boat be allowed to enter?

We could possibly let you in as a Wild Card but you would need to carry a life raft and prove that you have the experience to run long distance offshore. The distance will be about 90 miles, short for a Marathon Race but all we could do in such a short period of time. There is also another penalty, if you are a single engined boat you will have to carry a 5hp outboard and have the facility to fix it on if your main engine goes down.

Sorry about the restrictions but those are the rules for Offshore Racing as we don't have Divers, Rescue boats or Safety boats once out of the Solent. You are in effect on your own and need to be able to survive until the Rescue boys get to you as proved at Cowes this year when Boat 8 nearly sank off Two Buoys.

As long as it is a monohull and you carry all of the equipment required as per Marathon Offshore Rules & Regs and have done your dunk test then yes.

thanks mike but i guess we'll pass on this occasion then as we don't have a raft of a 5hp engine or anyway of mounting it either

Go on I've got an outboard you could use-use double sided tape to fix it on and your Blow Up Doll as a Life Raft?or better still just tow my boat behind

Supporting Power Boat Racing

For information I would like to advise all the suppoters and critics of UKOBA that UKOBA is donating £1,000 to BPRC to support The South Coast Marathon
We wish you good safe racing

£1000 from UKOBA and only a 1 day event - wonder if the entry fee will be reduced to encourage a few more entries?

A list of South Coast Marathon entrants will be posted one week prior to the event on the BPRC web site.
