The American Classics are Coming to Ireland & Cowes

The American Classics are Coming to Ireland and then Cowes.

Things are hotting up for the classics in Around Ireland 2010.

We now have 3 confirmed entries from the US.
Charlie Mc Carthy (He of Cork heritage) and CEO of HORBA, The Historical Offshore Race Boat Association of America has been in touch to confirm that they wil be bringing 3 very famous boats to our shores.

These are Dry Martini, Ghost Rider, and Benihana.

Benihana is a 35 Cigarette boat owned by Charlie and has quite a pedigree.

Benihana A short history:
Last offshore race boat that Don Aronow ever built for himself.
Raced as SPIRIT by Hal Sahlman- won Bushmills Offshore race 1975
Raced as BENIHANA by Rocky Aoki - won Bushmills Offshore race 1976
Presently owned by Charlie McCarthy who won the last Bushmills race in 1979.

Second is Dry Martini.
This boat is a 35 Cigarette also and has just finished a major restoration over in the U.S. and is ready to go. This boat was owned and driven by the World Champion in 1974. Dr Carlo Bonomi. This boat competed in the Cowes race before in the 70's.

And last but by no means least we have Ghost Rider, the famous Souter built 1966 Cowes winner.

Looks like Marcus Hendricks and Cinzano could have some competition for the Around Ireland and Cowes this year.

Some Photos:

Macrib.

I do not know how many are taking part in the 50th race but we have now just hit 50 pre registered entries for the classic rally to Torquay.

I think Longbow was referring to Around Ireland entrants.

As for the British Powerboat Festival 2010, entrants will be posted April / May on the BPRC website.

Brilliant. I've asked that question on their Face book page and the quote was taken down! So, all going well then?

Who is entered

I can confirm we now have 66 regiistrations with all the usual suspects including Vasillis & Dag, Dean Gibbs, Mike Deacon, All Goldfish, The Americans amongst others.

We are working hard behind the scenes to get to the next stage of announcements and will be issueing updates to all registered entrants in the coming week.

Payments are also in line with expectations and we expect all other entrants to complete in the next few weeks.

We are working on getting all entrants on the webiste so if you have registered please send us a picture of you, the boat, and the crew so we can add to the website. Please email to info@aroundireland.com

We hope to announce a beneficial deal from the Ferries to assist in getting those interested over here.

Regards,

Justin Mc Inerney

Seeing Martin Lai's boat listed on the BPRC club site reminds me about the sinking of his boat in last years CTC, don't know if you can get cover to help with what was know doubt a very expensive rebuild, anyone know if he has got it all up and running again

And like others here say it's going to be great with all these teams entering these events

Have we got any further with what is happening with the Round Ireland Race... talk is cheap... time is ticking... flights and ferries need booking or they will be too expensive.. what's happening.

I hate Herring but at present I feel like i'm being fed a red one!

Phone the organiser to find out what is the story?

I normally use that route when competitors "bounce" entry cheques.

Why?

There web site has been active for some time now and if they can't be bothered to up date all the latest info then you have to wonder what the organisation of the event will be.

After all these are expensive races to compete in.

How many teams are undecided.

I would say the RB8 web site was well informed but i darn't as your head will explode
