Good to meet you both at Drivers and Cowes,

I know all the crap between others and Blufin John on here but he does a cracking pre and post race report highlighting all the facts and how they actually happened.
Maybe these guys should bury the hatchet and all be on the one forum promoting the sport we all love,
Again only my thoughts,

Trophy

Although it's probably only of interest to Myself, Scott, Binny and Garry - it has been confirmed that Team 25 Racing, Drivers Dry Berthing has been awarded the Royal Torbay Challenge Cup for 1st boat into Torquay.

Congratulations!
After you went so fast in the first part, you well deserved it.

Still, I remeber talking to you about keeping pace and getting there safe.
So nobody knows if the Desaster on the Fuel would not have happened on slower mode, there is some truth in your own words getting home on your own keel would have been favoured...
But no injuries and no real damages, good.

The only question left to me is, what happened with all leading boats after they entered Lyme Bay.

We followed Shelly a lot, but at the turn into the Bay we just past her and headed straight out.
Blastoff wasn't spottet by us when they slowed their pace.
When we passed 47 Relentless around Torbay I thought it was the Langdons, as we did not notice their early trouble at the Needles.
After it took a longer time to come up to Relentless upwind the Bay, I still don't know why they fell back so far on the way back?!

Hannes must have taken the inshore way Upwind, because he turned up in Torquay after us. As you can read from my race report, I considered him and others to be far ahead. Then he managed to take a faster run back through the Bay ending straight under the cliffs from where I saw him heading towards us (being further out to sea), finally entering Poole Bay head to head.

On one of the YouTube videos taken at Hurst you can see both of us in the background of Hot Lemon.
We thought the Helicopter above the Buoy that is at the beginning of the way alongside Hurst might wait for us and was helpfull as something to head for (as we were in front of Hannes then), instead it was above Hot Lemon!

On another Video off Hurst you see that in this 'Channel' we had Hannes passing us again and only shortly before the Solent I trimmed up further to take Hannes again.
This is visible on one series of photos taken from Yarmouth. We just had higher Top speed, as he had the fast accelerating, but slower props.
Shortly after that Hannes ran out of fuel and stopped completely.

Every race is different, but still nice to analyse and see how to improve for next chances. This will be true for Team25 and for Cinzano.

I would still be proud to be 2nd to them, if they do win on the next race!

CTC timings

For what it`s worth,Cinzano came past Anvil on return at 13.42 just behind Wettpunkt with Hot Lemon going past at 13.38.We could see Cinzano some way off St.Albans with Wettpunkt on the true line close inshore.Hot Lemon was just coming past Anvil at the time.Cinzano came direct to a closer line at Anvil all the time getting closer to the Wettpunkt line.We wondered if Cinzano could see the Hot Lemon rooster so as to put the hammer down, but as it was said it wasn`t until the sun showed Hot Lemon rounding North Head that the colour of the boat ahead could be spotted.
I still can`t understand why some boats go so wide of the headlands when the true course is to clip them.St.Albans tide race was something to be avoided in the past, and lobster pots never bothered the racers from taking a direct line between Portland, St.Albans and Anvil,in previous races. The wave pattern seemed to be coming in at an angle of 30degrees to the coast so the big advantage of keeping inshore didn`t seem as good as having the wind from the NW.I`m sure there is a good reason why so many boats didn`t take a direct line between the buoys and the headlands, tide allowance and all that, but I suspect that despite all the high tech,it was a case of follow that rooster.

thanksfor the data!
In cinzano's case it was no rooster visible from hot lemon, probably because it doesn't have one significantly.
ed navigated and or hannes drove faster back from torquay as we met at anvil and i was told we were in torbay first.
so going closer was probably better.
lyme bay felt better than poole, so staying out probably meant a nicer/longer sea pattern.
on our way back from torquay we had oncoming 747 and the team 25 both seawards to our right side.
when we went outwards we definately had the most inshore run at the buoys.
ask eric why we changed that for coming back. it might be useful for next year, giving a few seconds more, but less tension on the finish line?!

Eric never knows where he is anyway! OMG, I should never have said that as he will be licking my ear now.
