Cinzano progress
Thanks for your insight into the race,Markus.According to `timtaps` photos taken in order of positions at Torquay,Cinzano was 4th behind Team 25,Hot Lemon and Relentless.
It would be good if we had the positions at the main passing points on the course, just like the old Yachts & Yachting reports of old ,with the time differences between the boats,It really did give a picture of how the race unfolded.I would have thought the mark boats logged this as a matter of course ,and fed the info back to race control.Something to consider in the future maybe, and thanks Mr.Ciao for the up front info re Broadcast times for the Sky film, that`s what we like to see.

As you know we now keep Mark & Safety boats down to a mininum in Offshore Endurance racing. The brief being that Endurance boats are just that, self contained with their own safety equipment and therefore have to rely on their own survival equipment until the Lifeboat arrives.
There were only Mark Boats at The Bridge with the next one being Paignton Pier, Torquay Turn Mark, Ore Stone Rock and then North Head. The best info I was getting were texts from Chris in the helicopter. It was the surest way of getting live time action info!
With regard to the Sky film, that operation was part financed by the BPRC. It's always been the game plan to (a) have a film record of the race for posterity, (b) to give all of those taking part the chance to see their boats in action and (c) in this instance to get it out there on TV, I never achieved all of that with the RB08 but it would appear that interest is building from some of the TV channels. There were four TV film crews at Cowes and 58 accredited journalists. We never had all of that in the RB08 either so something is happening!

Mark Boats
That`s an interesting point about the mark boats Mike.I was of the opinion that the reason races are cancelled in the event of bad weather, was more the fact that the mark boats had to sit out there, rather than the raceboats coping. If for the CTC the mark boats are only basically at Torquay and Needles area (although that can be horrendous),what maximum beaufort wind strength would you pull the plug, based on the raceboats managing,or is that a leading question. You may terrify the crews even more, although it never seem to bother Sir Max,but then relative to being a fighter pilot I don`t supposed it bothered him.

In days of yore when rules were firmer and more strictly applied, the prominent and much respected OODs, John Walker and Viv Williams reckoned that if it was not possible to transfer a moderately injured competitor from a race boat into a safety boat, because of sea conditions, the race must be aborted. The competence of competitors was ignored because the yardstick would have to have been the lowest competence crew.
The predominance of RIBS nowadays as safety boats will have significantly skewed the boundaries, but the principle remains the same.
Boxers would continue fighting in insurmountable situations and therefore rely on experienced referees and officials to protect them avoidable harm.
IMHO, after every race cancellation due to sea conditions, there are some competitors asserting that 'they could have handled it'.
Generally, these competitors are not front runners, are not fast and have little trim expertise. They just 'love the rough'!

Thanks Mike, without question I had a great day, the conditions off the Needles were just what the boat is for and we had a fantastic ride, as for the calm, well designs have moved on but nonetheless I am very happy to stick with the Apache and look forward to the next outing.

One of the funniest moments in my limited experience as a Safety Officer was at a Torquay event a few years ago.
Racing cancelled due to wind/ waves etc.
All competitors except one accepted this decision. "No problem for me and my boat, blah blah blah"
He was still saying this when the cranes drove away becuase it was too windy for them to have their jibs up!
