Okay not a problem, but I assume they will be published in the race instructions as per last year, so why take them off the website???

My error - I should never have put up those details.
All courses will be in Race Instructions.

Too much information makes for confusion. So enough of that. We are giving you lats and longs of all buoys including course maps in Racing instructions. You work out the distance in between yourselves as per usual.
Racing Instructions will be going out on Monday to all current entrants of ALL classes.

I don’t have a problem with the rules per se; I’m just frustrated at the crappy way they get publicised. To prove my point, look at how many people visit this website to find answers to the most basic of questions.
I understand that this particular amendment isn't a big deal, but it's unsettling when rules are still being fiddled with a month before the race.

What everyone seems to forget is that Marathon racing in it’s current form is only 13 months old and it is still evolving. Formula 1 change their rules every year although that's not our intention. Discussing this at the RYA yesterday, I requested in the strongest of terms that now the Marathon rules have been agreed and for the benefit of the organisers, boat and engine manufacturers and competitors that they are set in stone and stay that way for at least three years up to and including 2012. That was the original conception of Jon Fuller (the Father of the new Marathon Rules) and myself and there is some sympathy and agreement with this proposal from the RYA.
We will see if that actually happens because unfortunately someone always comes along with something different and then wants the rules changed accordingly to allow their new and special “widget” to race.

Mike, you may have unwittingly given someone an idea for a new "Widget Class"

CTC Trophies
For those of you who have never seen all of the Trophies that are won at Cowes each year John Moore has just put up on the BPRC web site - www.bpbrc.com - each one. They make for a fabulous sight and represent the cream of powerboating history. Go to the Cowes Classic 2009 thread and then Trophies.

British Summer
Mike
Given that the summer seems to have been and gone for this year, and the Met Office announced yesterday that August will be cr@p, have you discussed/planned a rough weather course for the CTC and at what point do you make the call to switch to it, F5, F6 ?????
Just wondered if there are any set parameters or is it just 'make it up on the day'?

It's down to the call of the OOD on the day but our rough weather course will be the course run by the other fleets, down to Poole, round the bay a few times which could be 5 or 6 and back to Cowes.
The CTC normally runs in up to a force 6/7 but depends on the wave height. It looks like low water at the start so you should have wind with tide during the race if the winds stay SW. However, if it continues like last Saturday be prepared to button down the hatches for a really bumpy ride whatever we decide to do.
One last point, on your leg out at the start from Hurst, because it's low tide we have put in another mark point which is the Bridge Buoy off of the Needles and then you can run out to Two Buoys, we are doing that so that you don't inadvertantly try to run across the Shingles Bank because you will rip the bottom out of your boat if you try!!

I think it should be pretty rough before the full course is canned. Otherwise, what separates Marathon from the plethora of other catamaran focused classes that only run in perfect conditions. 3C for example.
I'm not suggesting that we throw caution to the wind, but this is supposed to be Offshore, and we are supposed to endure.

I agree Jon 100%, but force 6 into a head wind across Lyme Bay with a 4/5ft wave formation is not for the feint hearted, to use that now well worn phrase and as you say this is Marathon racing. We will just have to see how the weather pans out.

If it were canned at F6 ( a real F6) I guess thats ok, but any less would be disapointing. As we built a boat expecting to go Offshore racing.
I'm sure Barry Deakin would agree.

Cowes Torquay
Just to update on Trophy's for CT ..
I know it is not a lot in this day and age but the Thunderbolt Trophy will have also this year a cheque for £100 to accompany it..
It may just be a piece of WOOD but it is from the original stern and is therefore unique.......
