The unladen weight of my freelander is 1450kg so I have changed the capacity plate on my trailer to 1400kg.
not people who past there test after jan 1997!! they cant tow over 750kgs braked or not braked

Have a look here your towing vehicle can be up to 3500kg but you can only tow a MAX with out a B+E of 750kgs! so if your car is 1000kg you can still only tow 750kgs http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product...ing_guide.html

You might want to read the link you provided......

"For heavier trailers, the combined weight must be under 3.5 tonnes and its MAM less than the tow vehicle’s weight. "

I've got a C+E what can I tow?????????

As for Woody that grey pencil of your boys comes in handy!!!!!!!!

Ask S2ART what happens when you get stopped towing a boat as a favour!!!!!!

I remember a few years ago you were meant to have a plate/sticker in the window of the tow vehicle with all the legal towing weights for that vehicle.

Graham.

Having never owned a boat over 18' long I’ve never been stopped on weight.
But I was stopped because my light board wasn't at the furthest point back!
it was mounted across the bottom of the transom with the motor tilted up so that it was clearly visible.
Even though I had a prop bag on the officer insisted that I lower the engine and place the light board across the back of the outboard!
luckily I had plenty of bungies.
Didn’t see the point in arguing the point at the time , but never checked it out!
Any thoughts?

Towed loads like that in the old days! Used to be ok! Correct me if I am wrong but you are supposed to have the reflectors that are on the trailer board the furthest most point aft. Which as most trailers have the extendable bars on them makes it a bit easier and means that as long as the prop is behind the board you don’t need a prop bag!
