I think that dates clashes with the proposed Guernsey race - shame as I'm sure some people would want to do both?

Yes you are right Guernsey is one week before the South Coast Marathon , But what I can say is that The South Coast Marathon was on the Calendar first, And I have asked the RYA to ask Guernsey to change there dates, Lets Wait and see what happens I do know of 4 Marathon Boat that are not going to Guernsey

Lets hope the RYA can sort it out so that both races can run for the good of the sport , To take a Marathon Boat to Guensey will cost a lot of money

I'd have thought that anyone who has the slightest passion for the sport, and especially if they were involved in the 80-90's would love to see the revival of the Guernsey week, so my suggestion would be to move or drop the South Coast Marathon instead, it's not like Weymouth is much of a beauty spot anyhow!

I hadn't actually seen this thread until today and knowing the discussions I have had with Tony and John Puddifoot I'm very disappointed to see the Guernsey Powerboat Week revival painted in such a bad light.

As mentioned, these two races DO NOT clash, they are a week and a day apart. Any boats returning from Guernsey would be going to the south coast, so are right on location for the weymouth race.
Sadly Tony chose not to mention his disapproval to me until it was too late. Due to the way things are over here, tides and not to mention that our powerboat week ran at the beginning of September for 30 years, there is no other date we can hold our event on. I offered to try to work with Tony and he refused, preferring to just complain to the RYA and Anne Robinson, trying to have our event cancelled.

Yes, it will be a busy month, but what a great opportunity for marathon and club racers to have Cowes, Guernsey and Weymouth all in the space of 2 months! I have no issues what so ever with Tony or his race and really want to see it succeed. All I want is to see powerboating grow and hopefully to have the honour of bringing back a local event that means so much to the people of Guernsey and powerboaters worldwide alike. The interest and support I have received already is phenomenal and very humbling.

As for the cost, boats are racing here, so there is no cost in bringing them over. We have very cheap fuel and I have organised a refueling session for all boats involved to allow them to take advantage of this. It's only a 70 mile trip back at your leisure. Should people wish to bring anything by ferry I am working very hard to organise cheap fares.

As for race entry fees, we aim to charge around £400 for marathon boats and £110 for club, not bad for a 4 day festival involving two monumental races and great entertainment.

We have the full support of the RYA who are very excited about the event and I look forward to welcoming all who wish to join us in making the revival of this historic event as special as it always used to be, before you head off to finish the fantastic season in Weymouth.

All the best everyone,

James

Ps. Apologies for any typos, wrote this on my phone!

Thank you for the support Tony, you're not the only one who feels this way!

I'm pleased to say I have now spoken to Tony and cooled things off, we're now happily working towards creating a great September of Marathon racing and allowing as many people as possible to compete in both events without hitch

Glad to see we can all work together towards a common goal, it's the only way forward, should be a great year.

James

Should be a good race Tony and a hard one. Thanks to you and UKOBA for putting it on and thanks to Guernsey and Dean for the other two. This just might be the beginning of an annual Marathon series - at last!

Now, how about getting the series filmed as in yesteryear?

Smile guernsey race

i have been reading the threads on the weymouth and guernsey races. i raced in waymouth in the early 1990s,and guernsey 3 or 4 times now. i have been racing over 30 years now, the one race i remember more then all the rest is guernsey 1988.i raced with rob mccarthy in a ocr boat,IF ONLY a little ring 16. we won the weeks racing, and better then that i won the wet tee shirt competition (£100). guernsey was the place to be, if you can get it back to some thing like that again, then you got my support and i would imagine all the other "oldies" to. i hope weymouth gets the support it needs all so.
