DAMN HELL AND DAMNATION!!

I went out to test the engine today, and was chatting to one of the safety boats for Cowes. I mentioned I was lucky to get the boat together again in time for Thursday.

His reply?

You dont have a race Thursday!

What? He confirmed. They were sent race instructions and there it is in black an white! No boats needed on Thursday as the V24 race has been cancelled.

I phoned Mark Priestly: He had heard nothing about the race! I cant get hold of the RYA.

RYA: RYA

I suspect it is 100% true.

Anyone out there have any inkling WTF is going on.

We are racing - I have paid for my bloody ferry crossing, and paid for a truck park spot in the camping site. and I find the race is cancelled and the ASSHOLES cant be bothered to notify me ( us )

And before you ask: YES - I entered TWICE. Once on the original national championship form, and again at Littlehampton 'cause the RYA had aparently misplaced some of the forms!

Na, it's ok with a couple of metres of stand-off, you just have to wedge ya elbow against the side panel and keep ya foot down, ...drive it through the chine walk, sorry, chime walk.

I am well pissed.

I spent a hell of a lot of money to ensure the boat was ready for Thursday, including the stupidly priced ferry crossing, which I only paid for in full 1 hour before finding out there is no event.

I think I would prolly only do the basic on Sunday now.

With the points standing at the moment, and with only one race in the nationals left, if I win the race I come third. If I dont enter the race I come third.

Matt, the rumour that I heard on Wednesday was that there wasn't ANY national races, so 2 litre included, not just V-24.

All this 'not' keeping people up to date is utter bollix, plus, I can't even comprehend how such a massive change could happen at short notice like this.

Has anyone spoken to Rory Power?

I got my race instructions on Friday and all was in order - I would like to hear this from an official source first before panicking.

Agreed, definately gotta check the facts on this. Could easily be a wind up if not from an official source. (especially if I also take a guess at who the rumour came from)

You have to love rumours - they provide more correct and valuable information than some organisers OR the RYA do!

That is great. They ran the V24's at Torquay with two boats! ( that is why no matter if I race or not, I come third. First and Second will be decided by they two boats who raced at Torquay.)

Still have to get an answer as to WHY they decided to run V24's - by themselves, in the ONLY race on Thursday. - seems like it was setup to have low entries! I heard from the RYA that *I* had asked for it to be arranged that way, which is complete and utter Bollocks - No one *ever* asked me, and I have not discussed and of the race calender with anyone.

Finally - if there were only two entries - and we start the race - I have a chance of coming first or second in the nationals, as I can catch up the points I missed at Torquay - if there is only one other boat ( and I was definately one of them - I only confirmed TWO races at the begining of the year on the RYA entry form - Ramsgate and Cowes. - I was asked to fill in a second RYA entry form at Littlehampton, and I filled in Littlehampton, Poole and Cowes, so they have my entry *twice*)

Yet I hear from a RUMOUR from a member of the safety crew that my race has been cancelled! It appears that RUMOUR is better than the truth - as - since I have bought it up on this forum - it is now confirmed that the race has been cancelled.

What decided to cancel the race, and not notify the entrants?

When was it decided?

Why not bother to notify the V24 Club?

Two months ago I had to decide to race in the UK, or to go and race in Scandinavia ( where they actually *like* people racing!! ) I have several emails back and forward between myself, the organisers and the RYA - several *heated* emails where John Puddyfoot threatened me with a disiplinary hearing ( laughs ) for bring the sport into disrepute - because they would not confirm two races at Cowes.

They finally agreed the two races at Cowes. So i did not go race in Scandinavia, and raced in England instead.

(The *four* boats in Scandinavia ran a full race series BTW - watched and supported by thousands of people, and activly suported by the clubs and governing body - who even arranged TV coverage!)

It is my suspicion that the V24 event was moved to Thursday - on its own, with no other events, and that the next V24 race was scheduled for Saturday specifically to be an obsticle to entries.

My navigator has taken two days leave from work. I have fixed the boat at high expence to be ready for the event, I have bought the ferry tickets and booked the campsite for truck and boat. - and I hear by pure chance that my event is cancelled.

Not only that but safety crews have been notified by POST! So the decision must have been made several days ago!

WTF is up with that?

It all stinks, I really don't know where it's all going!

Whilst there shouldn't be 'sides', there is, and they need to work together.
