Actually - you are both right!

I blew the exhaust gasket and hydroliced the engine. I could not start or turn over the engine. The damage also warped the exhausts, and I got a new exhaust gasket fitted, but when I tested Saturday morning, it leaked. Geoff tried to stop gap fix it so I could race, and I did race Saturday, but I have damaged something in the engine now, due to the water getting past the gasket and into the engine.

I could definately not have run the Sunday event.

It appears luck was on my side a little - or perhaps the problem only occurs at idle, because the major problem only became apparent after the race was finished, and we cant turn over the engine now.

It is in Geoffs hands now.

You need to suggest a rule change to allow a soft link between the manifold/riser & tail pipe!!

Any time I even think of suggesting anything I get protested.... True to form, V2 protested me after the race finished, due to eligibility, something about information that only became known after drivers briefing, so they could not challenge my eligibility at drivers briefing.

So is that every race except the Guernsey race to date? I have lost track? Wheeeeeee. - Is there a record for a person being protested the most in one year? The latest news is they are going to protest my engine and get it stripped. ( As long as they dont test my fuel or swap ECU's again, it will be ok

They have given up on the dodgy gearbox theory, as they found out the other gear ratio does not work ( their poor result in Ramsgate was rumoured to be due to fitting a 'special' gearbox )

As long as it's stripped quickly, or restarted and warmed up, should be fine.

In fact, if it failed to restart after a stop, I bet if he'd pulled the plugs out, spun it over to clear the water and put the (dry) plugs back in, it'd fire right up.

OK,

I have absolute and complete confidence in his work. So I really dont even question anything he does.

When the boat got back to Portsmouth, he did flush the salt and such rubbish out of the engine and fire it up. There was some sound which was not right, and there was damage to the engine. The offending bits were stripped on Monday and already at the machine shop. They will be re-assembled into the engine by the weekend for my next round of testing ( I have new props - they appeared faster before the problems Friday )

(He also has the full specifications of the engine and is fully aware that the engine will be stripped at the next race, so he is ensuring that whatever work is done to fix the problem will be within the engine rules and homologation for the engine and that Volvo parts will be used.)

My only consern is if the boat will hold together long enough for me to win the race.

It's a pity you can't get the protests and subsequent strip downs to coincide with the engine problems, thus saving you the expense of having to have it stripped to sort the problems. Perhaps if they thought they were doing you a favour they'd give up on the complaints!

Actually that's probably bollocks as the engine in my rally car got stripped and I ended up with a bill for the priveledge of being told it was all pukka, which I already knew!

Didn't mean to appear to question Geoff's ability - was just making a positive note to driver510 that water in motor isn't necessarily curtains if dealt with quickly.

I have met him. driver510 is very helpful in real life. He was really worried about me not being able to race Saturday. He also knows stuff about engines. Well more than me anyway!

I will be practicing 11/12/13 August in the Solent if anyone is interested.....
