Val/Frenzy

Does anyone have any news of Val's boat?
Is the motor OK? Is the damage to the boat easily repairable?

I believe from 'insider info' that the engine is fine.

No.

They taped up the bottom holes prior to the race. The water did not get in completely.

The boat did sink quite a lot, but not under the sea.

Came into the pits with the port-sternside sitting a bit low but within a couple of minutes they were having to reach underwater to attach the strops as the water was halfway up the cowl.

Dunno what ya mean by "bottom holes". AFAIK he was going along pushing hard and blew the tunnel out. A marshal boat put a tow on quickly, which prevented the boat sinking.

Quick action by Val, Neil, and a number of others to attach the lifting strops meant that the boat did not submerge fully.

I was there.

Matt, Adam and I helped lift the boat to get the water out. After that Geoff helped get the engine running again.

The engine cowling had tape over some holes, so that the water did not get into the engine even though the cowling had been under three inches or so.

Val ran the engine for 20 minutes on the hose to clean it all out on Geoffs instructions and that was that....

Holes in the bottom of the engine cowling. Only the top holes were open, so the sea did not get in when the back of the boat submerged...

It wasn't the cowling that could have been the problem. With the open exhaust the water level would have beenup to or past crankcase level so ther was probaly water in the block. Hence taking the plugs out to check. Hopefuly everything is ok. Poor old Val, one of the nicest guys in the sport and all he's had all year is bad luck.

The tunnel didn't look too bad, a sheet of ply some screws and waterproof glue should be back on the water soon.

We are still smiling!!!!!!! Even after the sinking feeling in Cowes!

Thanks to everyone who helped us out at the weekend, We are very grateful. Boat and engine both doing fine, boat is being repaired at the moment. And we got away with the engine intact.

Cheers Once again,

Val.
