Bri, 100% and the question is why?
get some answers back in see what people are saying
I drop into that slot & it's a simple answer - dont have the time.
I thought quite long and hard before commiting on an engine 2.5 or 200XS. by going the 2.5 route I made sure it couldn't fit in anywhere and get tempted by that
It does break the heart to see so few there now when large fleets were so common.
The 2.5 merc is a limited 280 ROS run, race teams only that have registered via there dealer.
200XS replacement doubt it while they are laying people off left right, little birdie said Rouen but subject to finances, it didn't show - offshoot of the 175 XS

Yeah Your right Brian, I have a race boat and would never race her, even in a basic because it cost me a lot of money and I would not be prepared to kane the ass of it and a chance of losing it for a TROPHY!!! - No incentive for me whatso ever, If a cash purse was involved then maybe more people would join with their race boats.

Yes there is a basic and I am sure most of C3 will be supporting it !! Rhino, Pearny, Scotty etc.
Dells not selling enough ice cream to support the locals so I guess the prize fund will be down to Reddish or Bananashark !!
Also an open basic in Looe October 11th !!

With a cash incentive there comes the people with more money than the average racer and the best of everything just to win and probably dare i say it cheating.
Alot of the guys i race against prob dont do it for the trophys anymore. They've been there and done it! Yes a trophy is nice but a good "blokes" chat at the bar after where obviuosly each person "went higher than the other off that one" and "exceeded the speed of sound down that piece of water" is much better!

So that's the answer, someone just needs to print some money! why didn't someone else think of that.

The local Council should cough up some money, think of the money the venues bring to the local economy, I know for sure this has happened in the past!!!

I guess a lot of reasons - but to look at slightly differently - why would people want to race in 3C?
- good venues? maybe some some but not all
- well promoted series with coverage? no
- big racing fleets? no
- easy to start racing / be successful? probably not
- good value for money? increasingly not I would say
- easy availibility of boats / engines? not that great - but engines can still be found and the E-Tec is legal - but does not suit most boats that are available.
- etc etc
Not trying to criticse all who are trying hard to keep things going - but maybe needs a bit different approach.
As Brian says racing is never going to be cheap - but it still has to give value for money and perhaps some key areas need to be looked at
I feel that the classes need to be sorted out with somewhere some sense being made of 3C , OCRDA classes, 3B and K classes having a bit more logical feel to them. In terms of courses, marketing, clubs etc.
Just my thoughts.

i think scottys got it right, most of the people racing now do it for the social and be with like minded boat owners. All the years i raced in ocr the social was what everyone looked forward to,if you had a good result that was a bonus.I bet if you had free entry it would not attract any more entrys so i dont really believe the cost is putting people off.I think the weather is the main culprit,as racing in the rain and cold hardly encourages people to want to compete, whereas if we had hot sunny days i am sure it would create more interest. But the weather is not the fault of clubs, venues, sponsors, and dare i say it the rya.

ourselves & the factory are supporting a cancer charity event next year to the tune of £5000, i know how hard it is to raise money to run races but i think you'll all agree its a much more worthy cause
Ed..
p.s.. you try selling icecream in the rain (august).
