Why are people NOT Racing

Quote from Calendar thread !!

"But the new classes could be because there people don't agree with the current way things are run or believe in the clubs that are running now. " May be looking forward is not the answer but ask people who have stopped racing in the last 5 years or so as to why, you may get some idea as to why things have gone wrong"

Why are people not Racing ??

Just do it-I did !
Lots of demand for race boats in Guernsey if you are not using them !
R.Y.A seem O.K to me.
Met a commisioner this year-very impressed with her too ,seemed very proffesional and above all helpful.

We are but in XCAT. Given up on UK as the 'authorities' have allowed stuff like F4SA/P1 to happen with obvious direct support and obvious direct involvement. This, I am sorry to say represents a conflict of interest. Curtis and Co tried to clean up but I guess that the net has closed on Warsash? Perhaps the authorities should lead an independent campaign and not so obviously side with people like Asif and Wickes and Co.

That's called backing the wrong horse! But no horse should be backed.

Leadership is required and it should be spread across all aspects. Both endurance and circuit racing.

Very sad situation but it cannot all be blamed on the recession.

There is too much bad feeling in the sport now and it is time for good independent leadership. The leaders of each class/series should join forces and call the shots!

The last race I done me and my dad had pipes cut on our gear boxes. Luckily they were only for speedo pick ups but still. You could see the plier marks on the rubber. Nice. Obviously someone didn't want us around.

All this doom and gloom, but there are still plenty of people who are racing (I think they just don't subscribe to Boatmad!).
For the 2011 season we at UKFFORC have 9-10 E1500, 4 E900, 4-5 F400 and 5 S250 boats signed up - a total of 24 boats.
People are quick to blame costs, organisers and the good old RYA, but our numbers are increasing every season so there are still people
out there who are starting to race, coming back to race, and continuing to enjoy racing.

Back to basics is probably the answer, used to be spoilt for choice late 80s early 90s,you could virtually race every weekend,Wallasey,Abersoch,Phwellei,Liverpool sailing club,Deeside, all within a 60ish mile radius of each other, then there was Newcastle docks and Swansea docks on top and that was BEFORE you went down the UKOBA route,if you chose to,a r.y.a.day license got you racing plus your local club membership, twas dirt cheap. You are asking for an answer, the fees being charged today could be one reason, plus the cost of the boat, the bits, the fuel,it aint an affordable sport anymore for your average Joe anymore.Build up the local clubs again, like Larby is trying to do,heres a guy will even lend a new competitor a raceboat for the day,6 more like James spread round the U.K. within the local club scene would give us a new series. My shillings worth for anyone thats interested

all the costs are expensive, but what competative motorsport isnt?

iv done my first season of racing this year and worked my ass off to get results. every penny and scratched/bruised spanner hand hours was worth it!!
