for all you competitors that cannot locate an optimax 200.ORDA have asked the RYA to see if we can have dispensation for xr2 at the worlds in guernsey in september.they are hopeful as the opti is not readily available to public as stated in rules.Should have an answer by19th March.Fingers crossed as it would attract more entries.

Not only is it "not readily available", at the Miami boat show they stated no plans to build any more - period!

It's all on the UIM site.
Last time I checked the etec 200 (not the HO) was homologated, along with a yammie too.

Yep, still there, though the etec are right at the bottom - almost out of sight.

if his latest powerhead passes scrutineering he can do nationals,if the RYA get dispensation then he can enter worlds. As two of the rounds in guernsey are for national points he can still compete but would not qualify for world points

?? Not unless the guy from mercury racing was telling fibs.
He didn't say "never", but he did say there are no plans to build any more.
You can still get bare powerheads however.

I have had it on good authority that the new replacement for the Merc 200XS just failed the sound compliance test by 1.5 decibels due to resonance in the leg! They should be able to sort that soon and have us a NEW eligible 200hp clean burn engine.

Info was from Someone who is the Biggest Merc dealer in the UK and was in States at Merc HQ during testing.

Cheers

Is it on a 15" mid? We were speculating that a 3L 200 motor would be in the wings.

i dont think a 3 ltr 200 would conform as it would be too many cc

It will all depend on the exact cc as 3C (epa engines) upper limit is 3000cc.
(hink the class shoudl be called 3 litre rather than 2 litre)

I think you have a really good case for the XR2 dispensation - but it is a UIM decision so who knows.

Not much choice is there - even the 200 Yamaha that is homologated is not available, or at least not marketed as Yamaha appear to be going to a fully 4 stroke range.

So just leaves the 2OO E-Tec with 20" shaft and fairly non-favourable gearbox.

Will be intereting to see what happens.
