Perhaps I'm mistaken but the harbour dues bit on their website says craft are exempt IF arriving by sea..... Seeing as how most of the non locals will be arriving on trailers are we likely to get clobbered by the harbour master?
Some places (the Hamble) for example don't really seem to enforce this but others such as Salcome they are red hot. Don't want to be upsetting the authorities for the sake of a few quid....anyone local know the score?
Also roughly how wide is the river channel (Crouch & Blackwater) as some of the turns look quite tight on my chart...will make it interesting in my cat as she likes to do a destroyer type (leaning out) turn...bit unsettling for anyone in close proximity as we run a little wider than the monos.

No, harbour dues are enforced by walking round the marina twice yearly to see whether you are displaying a current dues ticket. I know this as I refuse to stick one on my window. They are for seeing through not as an advert for the HA.
The harbour master will have no interest in you in the slightest as long as you are behaving yourself.
Crouch is quarter of a mile wide opening out very quickly at the time you will see it into open sea
Blackwater is plenty wide enough to run ski races up and down the middle without impacting on anyone else so that should give you an idea.

Remember that this is NOT a race, so there are no turn marks, there's no start, no finish and no timing. An offshore cat should have no bother with the area. Many of the other boats weigh over ten tonnes and are over 40' long and they play very happily together every weekend. Look forward to seeing you there and having fun on the water.

Trying telling that to the entrants. 5 rolling starts, 5 lots of bragging rights, it's most certainly a race in most peoples eyes!

But let's just clarify that it's not a race! And the harbour master will be watching so skippers are responsible for their own actions

It's a high speed rally, with most people keen to get to the card boat first. lol

Not particularly helpful posts.
Bob perhaps you could imbibe us with your wealth of experience of poker runs, I'd hate to think we've missed something.
And Gareth you have just managed in two posts to use terminology (6 times) that not one intended participant has used to date.
Cheers chaps.

Can we please just clarify before we start making assumptions; there will NOT be five rolling starts and there will NOT be a race. But you can do all the bragging you like at night time FOC! It will be a FUN day for everyone, messing about safely on the river, whilst bearing other water users in mind at the same time.
This is SEPAs first Poker Run and it may well be a little different to what some are used to previously - we want it to be successful first, with modifications added later to any future ones that may be in the pipeline! Whilst we certainly don't want to spoil anyone's fun, we also don't want to be upsetting local pleasure boaters enjoying their Bank Holiday afloat, which might jeopardise our chances of arranging another meet in the future.
Enjoy your banter on this thread by all means, but also bear in mind other people read it and may get the wrong impression. Thanks for your co-operation in advance!

Those "bit's of Scrap" cost me $900 - they better not be rolling around in Chaos's boot
