Guernsey

As it is only a month away, wondered if anyone is going over to Guernsey?
If you cant face going over on your “own bottom”, return flights can be picked up for £54 return.
Guernsey, in my opinion was the Mecca of Powerboat Racing in its “Hay Day”.
The event from 1984 got bigger and better every year, and unfortunately its demise was brought about by petty local politics over the space the boats took up for one week in September.
Guernsey locals still argue over how much lost revenue that decision cost the Island.
Having the Honda boys and girls racing there is good news for the sport, and for Guernsey.
On a lighter note it’s a fantastic place to go boating and get absolutely “Colin d” for a couple of days without paying Gordon Browns dues!

I have always wanted to go boating in guernsey! Can you catch a ferry there that will take both your boat and car?

The channel Islands are wonderful venues, clear water, interesting coastline, great fun.

there'splenty of places to get fuel/moor up.

Guernsey's main port/marina is St Peterport

Jersey's is St Helier

With a single engine, non 'unsinkable' boat, I would go 'in company' and choose a decent day!
It's a 100 odd miles to Guernsey from the Solent, and about another 25 miles to Jersey.

Translated, this means you'd be better off in a rib.

Or any other 'non sinkable' boat, such as a Dell Quay dory, or Boston Whaler, all pretty much as dull as a rib, but ya toobs wont tear, fall orf, perrish, or any other silly behaviour.

Don’t be silly have you ever been in a rib when the tubes fail!

On the subject of ribs my brother in our P16 with a V4 100HP Suzuki gave a toff in Salcombe a good thrashing at the weekend. The poor kid in the rib was gutted after daddy spent £25K on a brand new rib and Honda 225HP motor only to find the tiny Phantom 16 left his ass for dust!

I HATE RIBS - BUY A PROPER BOAT!

BTW GURNSEY ROCKS - remember partying in the French sounding Wine bar near the harbor (cant remember what is was called) getting blasted after watching the power boating all day. Steve Curtis was in the bar with loads of lovely ladies!

Whats that prove except the Phantom driver might have been better than the kid in the rib? About the same as the Ring 21 with a 200 Mariner that tried to follow me into Hells Mouth in North Wales last week. I was driving a 7metre Rib with a max speed of 47knots with eight passengers. He left my ass for dust while the swell was 1 metre but as soon as we hit the overfalls I was down to 25knots and he was struggling to keep up eventually disappearing up his own arse in a very graceful stuff. I managed to keep my face straight while I towed him into shelter and pumped him out. Four people in the boat, two LJ's between them which were in side pockets and had inflated, no pump, no radio and you call me silly.

I think I will give that trip a miss then being an 'amateur' in the boating world. I fancy taking a trip from Penzance to St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly next year. that works out at about 42 miles from port to port

Wank all you want mate if it makes you feel better!

"Yes I have. I just stuck a patch on and carried on"

Hmm I don’t think to carry a fibre glass repair kit with me in my boat. However we where off Ibiza at the time and had to hold the side up when it deflated and it was a new boat! We just about managed to get back to my dads boat in time if two people hadn’t been in the boat we wouldn’t have been able to hold the side up and would have lost the boat and engine. Not an experience I would like to have again.

"Whats that prove except the Phantom driver might have been better than the kid in the rib?"
Doesn’t much matter in a straight line and flat water.

Sorry but I hate Robin Reliants too because they pretend to be cars! Hell Mouths is good for surfing wouldn’t plan to go boating there. I guess the rib functions as a surf board too though eh!

Unfortunately the type of boat you drive doesn’t dictate what safety equipment you choose to carry on board or how you use it.

I haven't, but i'd bet there's 2000 odd members of ribnet with pics of ribs in their bed side drawer covered in spaff!

they're a funny lot, ribnobbas!

Strange that because any CE marked boat has at least five air chambers. Exagerating a bit are we. Tut tut

Don't let it put you off, When your dad lets you out on your own and you get a bit of sea time in you'll learn how to cope better when things go wrong

Dunno about that. You can almost guarantee that an xr3 was driven by a ****. Guess the same goes for boats too
