Kind weather....

Luckily for all of us, the weather broke the habit of the last few weeks and gave us fine dry conditions, with a bit of a stiff breeze, perfect for Poker!

However, in the name of safety, and to best please the smaller boats and family crews, we eventually decided to run the shorter course (40 miles instead of the 70 of the full course) on reflection, I still can't decide if it was the right choice, but eveyone seemed to enjoy it.

Thanks very much to all those who made the effort.

Also thanks to the staff at Drivers for getting everyone in....and out on time and without misshap, Gill, Gareth, Georgia, Clive, the Fountain Hotel and Cowes Yacht Haven for stacks of hard graft and patience.

Also thanks to the kid on the end of the Ryde Peir head for giving me the Wanker sign, not sure what that was all about.

=======

Winners on the day:

The Poker Pot went to Clive Baker & family

- - - - -(will come to me in a minute) won a bundle of cash for second best Poker hand.

Stuart 'Ace' won a magnum of Champers for third best Poker hand and also won the free Neil Holmes Powerboat school day for his aerial display off Calshot..

Andy Edwards won the 'most improved driver' award.

Pete Philipson won summat for being a bloody good sport, wearing the DJ all day on and off his Jet Ski.

Cookee won summat for coming such a long way, only to break down (and throwing a hissy fit at lunch)

One of the Thundercat drivers (sorry, can't remember name) won a folding marina bike (no, not that one) in the mystery prize draw.

The Dodges won some stuff for being long time supporters of these events, travelling from the other end of the world every time (Cornwall).

'Vee' got some swag for being the first boat to the first card pickup (but remember, it's not a race).

Here's a few pics of the day: (may put together a short video, but the raw footage is a bit limited)

1 & 2) Showing that as ever, he's a great sport, Peter Philipson (Little Pete) did the 'Bond' thing, off...and on the water. Great job Pete.

The Girrafe goes for da card whilst Chaos assumes his usual (old lady driving) racing stance. (You need to get a bit closer to that wheel though chaos, for the full effect)

Matt Williams with 'Don't Panic'

Matt Yorke don't look appy! Think it might be his 'Wallace & Grommet' impression.

The scene in Cowes Yacht Haven (lunchtime stop)

Clive Baker & family in Double Vision', the eventual winners of 'the Poker pot' in Clives 'Phoney'.

My crew rushing round making sure the boat is tip-top

Generally, a pretty good event, I even got a special thank you letter/drawing from 'Foolish's' daughter at the evening bash.

Thanks to all Poker Runners for making it another great day.

We have lots of people to thank but the most important is Jon. He is a very busy guy and yet always finds the time to help and brings along all his equipment that takes him ages to set up and then after the event pack it all away again. It is very much a busman’s holiday for him and we much appreciate his efforts.

Thanks also to Jackie for her help with getting the hanger ready and organising the t- shirts. By the way we still have a few left for those of you who did not buy them on the day and would like a memento of the event please email us if you want one.

I hope all who took part enjoyed it as much as we did.

Watch this space for the next Drivers event later on this year.

Gill, Gareth and the Team.
