PRA AGM Report

Yesterday the club held an AGM at the Pelican in Addlestone.

The committee (of only 2 currently) are very disappointed to report that only 5 people in total attended. The club needs a full committee of 5 committed individuals in order to continue as well as support and involvement of members. Brian (chairman) and Rose (treasurer) both wish to step down, and can see no future for the club as things currently stand.

We therefore give notice that unless a new committee steps forward by Sunday 13 March 2016 and calls a further General Meeting at which they will need to be proposed, seconded and elected, the club will be wound up and the remaining funds amounting to £700 will be donated to charity (£350 to Macmillan Cancer Support and £350 to the RNLI).

Rose/Brian,

That does appear to be bad news, no more rally's then I presume.

Out of interest, what has fuelled your decision(s) to stand down?

It's quite simple. Lack of support! Add to that, Brian and I both have demanding full time jobs that involve a fair amount of travel, and we also both have family matters to attend to ... time is tight ..... Just needs a team of people with a bit of time to put in ... we've asked for volunteers to join the committee several times and had no response. It's a real shame. Seems lots of people want to come to poker runs, but nobody wants the hassle of organising them.

Isn't that every poker run, amateur sport or social event that's ever existed? I always assumed Mike, Vee and Paul knew that from the word go. You've basically got to be into philanthropy!

That's such a shame, just when it was showing such promise. There are at least 30 boats or more out there who could potentially take part in at least one run a year and there are plenty of guys to my knowledge (and clubs) with the ability to continue to run these events, the infrastructure is in place thanks to Brian and Rose, just needs a couple of enthusiasts to take control.

It's an awesome sight to see 30 odd boats of all sizes running down the western solent for ten miles and all having fun as many on here will remember.

Maybe, just maybe, someone will step forward.
