The main question being asked is ‘If this is the case, should the entrants (and thus members) not be explicitly informed of this before they send in their forms.?’ and the answer to this is yes, of course they should and so they will be. As we see it, such liability could only arise in respect of alleged negligence contributing to an incident, with a negligence claim being made in addition to a standard 3rd party liability claim against a boat owner. And like all organisers of such events over a great many years, we will put in place the necessary insurance to cover for this unlikely eventuality.

As organisers we have to have some kind of entity in place to run the event, account for it, hold insurance etc. We found there were two choices – a Limited Company or a simple Association of Members. We chose not to go through the expense and complication of setting up a Limited Company for which there would need to be Directors who would then carry the full responsibility. We chose to stick to the Association approach, where it seems only fair that all who benefit should join together as members for the mutual benefit of all wishing to take part. Naturally that means mutual responsibility as well. The committee who are working hard to enable this event to happen are unpaid volunteers and should surely not be expected to carry the can alone!

The clash of dates is a real shame. We are planning two more events later in the year so there will be more opportunities.

The PRA Committee are pleased to report a very productive meeting was held Friday evening. We are progressing well with the amount of detail needed to get things properly set up, alongside our normal day jobs. Not always easy, but please be assured that we are committed to making this happen.

The date of 23 May is absolutely firm for the first Poker Run, out of Hamble Point.

We are also in the early stages of planning a second Poker Run to take place on 4 July out of Littlehampton running down to Brighton and back.

We just need to get a legal eye cast over our paperwork and then we can start to send it all out. We have recorded details of everyone who has contacted us, be that via facebook, boatmad, rib.net or our email address and you will all be emailed the forms etc as soon as they are signed off. We also have a contact list passed over from Mike Lloyd and will email everyone on that as well.

Meanwhile, any questions or comments, please drop us an email at PRApirates@gmail.com

Emails have just been sent out to almost everybody who has either already paid for membership or who previously requested booking details for the poker run. There are a few for whom we don't have an email address - if that's you please contact us (on here, via our website, or to our new email address which is powerboatrally@gmail.com).

When I type the web address on here, it gets changed to its working name.... grrr.

with extra spaces so it doesn't get changed it is www. powerboatrallyassociation. co.uk

I have promised the PRA guys that if they get more than 31 boats (which is what we got last year) at their end of May Poker Run then I will put up 2 bottles of Champagne as a prize. It's not a lot but all I can afford as an OAP!

So, who will be taking part?

Mike, I did ask over on Facebook whether all last years participants would be getting an email as they are the supposed "founder members". Seems this isn't the case.

Emails will be going out to all on Mike Lloyd's list from last year shortly. However there is nothing more to add that isn't already on the website that we announced on Tuesday evening - accessible via this link prasite

Please note (as reported previously) that Mike has handed over the running of the association to a committee. However he did invite everybody previously interested to a meeting last November.

At that meeting Mike offered founding membership for £100 (only available at that time) and standard membership for £30 per year. He then presided over the nomination and voting of a committee to whom he formally handed over. We have worked hard since to formalise everything.

We have a list of seven founding members who all paid back in November and have now been emailed. If there is anyone else who believes they paid for founder membership who we are not aware of, we would appreciate an email to powerboatrallyassociation.co.uk so that we can resolve the matter.

Regards
The Committee

Great to see the entries coming in for the May Poker Run. Many thanks to those who have responded so quickly. And for the rest of you, please don't delay ... it's been a long winter, but spring is coming and it's time to get your boats prepped and ready for this exciting event!
