Ok chaps, I've been doing the course today.

We're having the lunch stop in Portsmouth, mooring at Gunwharf Quay and chomping at 'Tiger Tiger'.

We'll be leaving Drivers Wharf at 11.30am SHARP

We're going to start a little ways down Southampton Water, mustering just off Netley. then out to Calshot, Horse Sand Fort, and over to Langstone Fairway, where we'll run slowly up into Langstone Harbour with the 1st card collection within the harbour at the bottom end of the skiing area near to the 'Ferryboat Inn' on Hayling Island.

Then a slow run out to start near to Langstone Fairway, out around Horse Sand Fort again and into to Portsmouth harbour entrance. Great care will be needed in this area as the Queens Harbour Master is quite particular about craft movement on his 'patch', so we'll probably have a boat pick you all up outside, and lead you across to Gunwharf as this is crossing the commercial shipping channel in the entrance. 2nd card at lunch stop.

After lunch, we'll run slowly out to Gilkicker point where we'll start and head over to Osbourne Bay for card 3. Then off round the Cowes headlands via West Ryde Middle and East Lepe to the Newtown Creek entrance, where as the tide is a rising nepe, there should be plenty of depth to have the card boat inside Newtown Creek, which is gorgeous. that's card 4.

That all adds up to about 55 statute miles, so not too painfull on the old wallet fuel wise.

From there, off to a point just off the entrance to the Beaulieu river for card 5.
Then back to base via West Bramble and Calshot for the evening festivities.

Anyone who still needs to get their deposit into Gill needs to do it NOW!! cheques made payable to G Williams.

For those of us that are not local to the Solent, does this Submarine barrier have a bouy at the end of it, or anything to mark that you are far enough out to pass?

As reading here it seems to have caught out the best!!

The barrier runs from the shore at Southsea, south, with a dog-leg at the end running SW and one of these at the end, you can't really miss it.

There is a marked passage through it about half way tween shore and fort.

There will be charts of the area at the briefing, so you can get comfortable with it before you head out.

No, there are three, the privately owned one is 'No Mans Land Fort', then there's our one, Horse sand, then there's Spit sand fort just outside Portsmouth harbour entrance, that one is open to the public, hold events etc, you can also hire the apartment on the top of it. We had a poker run evening bash on it back in 2001 which was very cool.

This is No Man's
