Its a bit of a shame that negativity has crept towards this event.
Look at it this way.
We have nothing now so a few people are trying to make something, If for what ever reason it does not happen( i say this only for the purpose of this reponse) It would be for a good reason and if this is the case that its because of technicalities then the idea would be to correct and re asses for later or maybe the following year.
If it turns out that certain events just cant happen over here for some reason then thats life so why worry?
A few of us believe in the idea and format of these and will continue pursuing for the future and sooner or later if they picked up in the uk You will be dealing with aforementioned bodies so why not now and be proactive?
On the positive side if done right ( And mike is working hard on this) Something takes off we all have some fun to look forward too but this is for the long haul potentially not a one off event!
My view is if you want to join in, do if not, dont. simple.
So to all reading this and coming along, This is going to be a good social weekend.
Paul

Vee has booked Anton Paul for the day. He usually commentates for Thundercats, Windsurfing events etc. He is very funny and close to the edge!! In fact sober Mark Pascoe with an Aussie ascent! Should be great fun for the evening party!

I sincerely hope that the authorities see sense. A small number of people have spent a lot of time making sure that this is both successful and above board. The Essex event was a a success. Whatever anyone else has heard it was well publicised, organised and announced. If you choose the put you boat in the middle of an event of whatever kind purely to be able to complain you need to get a life.
As a micro business, I find it unbelievable that the HM coast services seem obsessed with only serving a small portion of British interests. Rejecting events like this is a smack in the face of ailing British powerboat builders industry.
Two years ago the cowes Torquay was organised on the same weekend as a novice sailing event in the Solent. 80/90 mph boats entering the needles were met with tacking novices.
The seas are not just for inflatables and boats with sails. Power boaters have a right to use the waters, sensibly. Organising an event and and meeting with these people to ensure that everyone is advised and aware should be sufficient especially so far in advance.
Mike I hope you have success in making these people see sense. If not then the British powerboat industry is dead.

Its not quite as bad as it seems in that light...... again the idea is to be proactive with people we will encounter in the future. Its not about what rights we have or who gets preference but more meeting the authorities to show we are looking at this responsibly.
My understanding is all seems positive but Mike will post when he sees fit im sure

Don't know anyone or anything about the politics behind this, but in my experience the people who get upset by stuff like this are the ones who feel they hold some kind of right or authority in an area they don't and then get upset when something happens that proves this point.
Having been at the Essex poker run, from a complete outsider (I only knew one person there) it came a surprise to read that in this thread it was considered by some to be a disaster, incredible. What planet are they on I wonder.

Well, even though everyone enjoyed the Essex venue (except for the Harbour Master) we are hoping you will all enjoy this one even more as you will cover the whole of the Solent from West to East and back. Even on a mildly blustery day that will give you some great boating.

The final hurdle has been overcome and we are now ready to accept firm entries into the “Poker Rally”. Before we start to pay out monies we need to get confirmation of numbers for the lunch at Cowes, the evening barbecue and party. So, please email me at gpvboats@hotmail.com*now if you intend taking part on the 19th*July and we will send you the entry form.*
Please remember that those on the original list get first in oppotunity.

At this precise moment in time i have been asked to just re confirm names and numbers as we had the date change. To my knowledge this is to gather numbers for lunch and evening do.
Mike is dealing with all that side of things and will comment shortly.
Paul

Yes Lawrence, coming up on the web site any day now and so is the Entry Form - they are all done. My problem is that the Golf Course keeps calling so you will have to forgive me for being such a lazy arse but I will do my best soonest.
