May I suggest the use of ear plugs as a different option to replacing the existing engines. Not only are ear plugs effective but are quite a trendy fashion accessory and available in many colours and styles, some even have a very nice connecting cord that could be substituted with a nice gold chain, which your husband will happily supply.
To highlight the experience these could also be used with ear defenders, these have the added bonus of reducing noise levels even further as well as keeping the ears warm on those days when it is slightly cooler than expected. This has very good mix & match options dependant on your colour choice. The important issue is that the ear plugs, ear defenders, handbag & shoes all match & coordinate. If you don’t mind sharing these can also be used by your husband when sharing the drive home after.
