225 Mercury Saltwater

For sale:

Mercury 225 Four Stroke EFI Saltwater Series
25" (extra long shaft)
<250 Hours
One owner - Purchased new July 2003
Smartcraft gauges
Topmount control (sidemount may be available if required)
I have been told that this was made for Merc by Yamaha.
The internet says it weighs 265Kg
Good condition, doesn't look 9.1/2 years old.
Pictures to follow shortly.

I'm open to offers, Hoping to get around £4250 for it. I have never seen one for sale so I'm not sure if this is reasonable but have seen the same year Yamaha sell privatly for £4750. Please don't flame me if you thunk this is too much, I'm just going for what I think is reasonable.

£500 Mercury 225 Saltwater.

Update:

The good news... It is definitely a Yamaha.

I didn't have the right lead in my Mercury diagnostic system but the YDS plugged straight in and communicated. (Diagnosis record available on request)

The bad news is that the dash mounted engine hours meter was reading incorrectly. The smart craft gauges are also beyond use. (I can supply a Merc rev counter that is suitable) The real engine hours from the ECU are 683!! Also two fault codes are reported, code 23: engine intake sensor and fault 28: shift position switch.

The engine does run impeccably, starts in a millisecond and revs out fine.
The trim and tilt is fast and smooth, comes with a laser 21. Merc top mount control, Merc ignition and kill switch.

If anyone wants any more info, further testing, compression etc, I'm happy to oblige.

It's been Government owned since new and has therefore had regular use and regular service.

With all this in mind, I’m taking offers starting at £500+Delivery+VAT as spares or repair.

Best offer so far is £350 (Plus VAT and delivery)

The engine isn't much use to me so in all likelyhood it will go to the highest bidder.

I have a problem with my 2stroke 225, this would bolt on and be up and running quickly, so I am interested, it would do until I find what I'm looking for!
Where exactly is the motor? Would you arrange delivery to Guernsey?
What is the minimum you would take including delivery?
Cheers

Been off the forum for a bit but am confused as to the starting price and the prices offered????

So what's the deal with this engine? Why is it all of a sudden so cheap?

I'm guessing I've missed something here ?

I don't have a minimum as such. The highest reasonable offer gets it.
If you PM me your Postcode i will get you a shipping quote for you.

What is the broken 2 stroke 225? I might be interested in it.

The dash mounted gauge read 212 hours, it was traded in on that basis. Once I interigated the ECU it turned out to have done 683 hours and has two minor sensor faults also. At those hours it is more of a liability than I am happy to sell without the spares or repair tag.

If there are no reasonable offers we will strip the LGC and assess. If the LGC is good we will strip the powerhead, hone, new pistons and bearings etc. It will then sell with a warranty. If the LGC is bad I will sell it bit by bit.

With all that said, It goes in and out of gear as it should, starts well, has good power etc.

I take it I am correct, the motor runs fine, but has no gauges and has done more hrs than you originally thought? It's only to fit for a while until I repower with a lager motor, it would bolt straight on!
My opti needs new injectors, so the local merc people say! And new fuel pump.
Cheers

Hi Tony,
Yes that is all correct. It sounds like it would fill a hole for you.

On the Opti, that would be the £300 each air injectors then? ie not the standard fuel injectors. Have all six failed? and I suppose we are talking the £500 fuel pump also? What happened? water in the fuel would be my guess. Did you melt any pistons?

Yea £300 each injectors! A mate has had her running, but I'm no mechanic! And fuel pump too! Yes water in the fuel, what a pain! Everything else fine though.
If I was more mechanically minded, I would remove them and clean them up and get them serviced, but ideally I'm looking for a 300hp to replace it with! Money is an obstacle at the moment though, just lost my stepson in a car accident, and the bills are ridiculous!
Would definatly be interested in a deal delivered guernsey!

Hi Tony,
Sorry for your loss mate.

Those opti injectors are a liability. It doesn't take much water to render them knackered. I've never seen one respond to cleaning/ultrasonic etc once they have failed either. So to be fair, if its all six and the HP fuel pump too, it's too much of a gamble for me to fix.

I'll get you a quote for shipping tomorrow.

There is a thread talking about hours on this exact model of engine here:

http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-...-question.html

Possibly the hours aren't as bad as I thought.

I've just had an offer of £1500+VAT+Delivery by a dealer.

It will sell for that if no one else is intersted.
