The V24 gets it's new name as there is the overhang on the transom for the rear cockpit extension, vertical fin and exhaust mounting area. V24's are of course also considerably heavier, hence the good rough water performance.
Good info, cheers.

Although the 'heavier is better in the rough' statement is a controvesial one.

I reckon it's appparent superiority over the B23 is due to the deep drive maintaining fwd drive even when the boat is fairly well clear of the water, and very importantly, the confidence the driver gets from the canopy (in a boat with a reputation for stuffing so easily)

PS. I take it it's Simon I'm talking to?.....hows the stainless business going?

Jonny, yes it is Simon, well deduced, the world of stainless steel is booming. Even considering a bit of racing again. I agree about the height of the drive and the canopy with V24s, with the DPX so much lower you do get a great grip on the water, totally different to an outboard powered boat. Having raced canopy and open boats the canopy does give you a sense of security. I would contend however that it spoils the fun as you become more remote from whats going on outside and loose much of the sensation of speed which is why we all race !

The 2 ltr's have that rep not V-24's,their weight distribution is much better for all sea's even following if trimed right!

and as for the feel of speed you need to try doing 73 mph in a 2 meter chop, with a 23 foot hull ,thats pretty exciting

not even the 9m ,400hp ribs can keep in front of the V-24's when the rough get's going.

like i said jon if trimed right, also not forgetting the noisy pedal has a good deal of affect too when used correctly,do remember that is a piccy of the great M.P.probably not the best exsample of how to do it.

as he would agree himself.

We all know the qualities of the V24, but the feel good factor of the "canopy" gives a feeling of complete invulnerabillity which shows after a race with the carnage that is in evidence to the hulls!

Forgetting the all-conquering ribs for a minute ...yawn

I find it hard be believe that a 4 litre B28 would have trouble with a V24! (assuming they're both being driven by the same calibre driver)

And if it did, I reckon the canopy has an enormous amount to do with it.

A canopied B28 would be summat!

What happened to the Miller/Stoneman/Walker B28 (Wing n a Prayer) after it's damage?

Don't rule out driver ability when looking at the carnage.
all that said behind a canopy is good when in an incident.
that piccy of mark and little pete, if they were in a b23 2ltr what would have been the out come?

not pretty i'm sure.

Ian Blacker was putting a canopy on his 28 but it wasn't seen at a race last year, I think I heard a rumour about him going 6 litre with it?

Photo's? Of Pete Little?

No- Not even in the UIM 2005 rule book.
Front pages, listing World and European champions, there is Gavin Brown's uuuugly smug mug, and a blank space where the Pete Little picture should go.

So 'Blank Space' won the Europeans
