I assume you are referring to Yamaha clarinets and saxophones when you speak of reed valve wind instruments.
When I was in the music industry, Yamaha had (and still has) an eniviable reputation. From their electric guitars to sound reinforcement to pianos and orchestral instruments, they were uniformly excellent. My daughter plays a Yamaha trumpet.
Yamaha are involved in many industries and they just don't seem to do anything badly.
Not so sure about your Yank junk comment however. Do you think your boat might be feeling a little unloved?
BTW, the Yamaha logo is tuning forks.
