For Sale : Chief engines and Mk 5 drives

2 x 575 BHP Chief 502 cu. in. marine petrol engines
2 x Borg Warner gearboxes
2 x Mercruiser Mk5 transom units and drives
Plus lots of ancilliary parts

Engines x 2
Built by Chief in U.S.A. in 2003, and have reputedly done 200 hours only. Fitted to a Mediterranean leisure boat of a famous ex F1 driver, and removed when he bought and fitted the super-charged engines from our CUV “Cinzano”.

The specification which includes Dart heads, stainless valves, rockers, push-rods, also up-rated camshaft, pistons etc. can be confirmed with Chief. The heads have been removed for inspection. The bores are very good and would seem to confirm the 200 hour usage. Following some light fire damage to the wiring looms, we sent the ECUs back to the manufacturer – EFI Technology in U.S.A. They advised replacement at a cost of $1948.75 per engine. Also new Mercruiser engine looms would be required, at approx. £140 each. We have not ordered any of these at present, in order that a purchaser may make their own choice regarding these.

The engines are complete with all major components i.e. starters, alternators, power-steering pumps, headers etc.

Gearboxes x 2
Borg Warner Type 72C gearboxes, 1 with tail shaft extension and one without, untried by us, but reported to be in good working order.

Drives x 2
Mercruiser Mk5 transom units complete with 4 power-trim rams and pipes. Complete but require rebuild. The drives and lower units appear to be in reasonable condition but are untested and not disassembled by us.

Additional Kit
2 propeller shafts 10” and 54”
2 Mercruiser drive trim pumps
2 Keikeheifer flaps pumps
2 stainless steel transom stand-off brackets for steering rams
2 heavy duty steering rams
1 steering tie-bar
2 aluminium fuel water separators
1 hydraulic steering reservoir
2 Mercruiser engine mounting plates
8 steel angle engine feet, galvanised
4 stainless water-cooled exhaust pipes for staggered installation
2 tail-stock assemblies
2 rev counters
12 assorted Gaffrig gauges, white bezel
1 large tin box of assorted new and used additional spares

We feel that all of the above would be ideal for somebody fitting out a bare hull on a tight budget.

Offers are invited for the whole lot, or we would consider offers for individual items, we need the space, so make us an offer!

Hello....

Ive been in discussions with TimGrim about these engines for some time now, he's a decent chap and has been very honest about them, but on the other hand I am also looking at a boat in the States which I can buy - import and strip for less money, sell the trailor, hull and other bits and get the parts I need for next to nothing (well almost) - the boat has twin 625HP engines which will give me more grunt for my $/£

Just waiting for my friend in the States to have a final look over the boat and then its going to be shipped to the UK.

Tims engines would have been on my list if this boat hadnt turned up, and still maybe if its not exactly what ive been told it is.
