Hi,
I have an old Merc tower of power 1150 thunderbolt straight 6cyl....from around the same time 1971-3 ish,

1. not worth the time of day if the thing doesn't want to play ball
2. when they run they normally have two modes 'idle' or full pelt!
3. expensive to fix!

but that is only my opinion

Josh

I love them, but I wouldn't go that old. Id go with one that does not have a distributor. Try and get a blue band 79on+

Merc 1250 Redband

I think you will find the 1250 redband is circa 1968, from an era of unreliable Mercs. rusty drive shafts causing water ingress to gearcase and wrecking it rusty spline at top taking out crank spline & they didn't tickover very well as a project it could turn into a nightmare.

Redbands were 1968 to 1971, with the 1250 being built in 1968 & 69, ( will double check this )
the HP was rated at the flywheel, so prop HP would be around 112/115HP.

do you have its serial No, should be able to date it from the serial No.
