Question Outboard wanted - any recommendations?

I know little or nothing about boats and even less about outboards however I now find myself in need of an outboard to suit a 12ft Shakespeare speedboat so your help appreciated.
I cannot stretch to a new engine so secondhand - ideally a 60hp or thereabouts with remote, electric start and power tilt/trim. I don't really want to go the ebay route as I am not confident re checking out/quality.
The boat is to go overseas so 3/6 months warranty of little use as if anything goes wrong it would cost a fortune to get back. I could buy abroad but my Spanish is as limited as my boat knowledge! Other problem is I live in the Midlands and we don't have a lot of boat yards around here.
Any recommendations gratefully received - THANKYOU

Intended use & where in Spain coast or inland

Think a 60 might be a little big for a 12 footer

In sea - just for 'pottering' around (tranquil/protected bay) .... original brochure for boat said suitable for 40 > 60hp outboards. Previous enquiries indicated I should go for 60hp but more than willing to accept any advise. Thanks

Where abouts in Spain? My dad lives in La Manga and he's just bought a new Tohatsu 70, He's got an old but reliable 50hp mercury that he would probably sell for little money.

Also consider Tohatsu 50's as used by the zaps and Yam 60's are very reliable,
Watch newer merc 60s have had recalls on electrical parts think it was the rectifiers or something similar.

What about a pair of Xr2s

Seriously many moons ago my mate had a Dory 14 with a Yam 40 3cyl, and it was plenty for it and was good on the juice too,

I had a Soozook 50 on a stripped out Fletcher 129 many years ago. It flew.
I'd say 50hp would be more than enough on the 12' Shakey, 40hp probably ok.
