I'm guessing that's a large patch on the transom and that they are not built that way? looks like a lot of 'home' plumbing going on there and I think I spy a sea strainer. Not keen on the exhaust going through the rub rail. Still, the price aint bad.

I've always wondered how much better they run compared to a 24?

It's a 24, not a 26.

That's a wedge to change the transom angle. The boats originally had an almost upright transom, as they were designed for outboards on brackets. Mike used to mould a wedge into them to correct the angle for s/d power, but I changed the angle in the mould using a plant..

So are your versions built pretty similar to Mike Rings or did you change a few things around and are the race boats (cougar 21s) built differently to the pleasure versions? Just asking cos I don't know much about the history.

Thanks
