Looks like a South Coast Marine 'Marina' - I cant workout whether it could be one of the Ring 16's (15ft) that may have been moulded as part of the Honda series that never got off the ground or whether its the later 16's that Mike at SCM had the moulds for.

Sorry, I wasn’t intending for that to sound in code!

As far as I was aware. One of the earlier Ring 16 models was nearer 15ft and a later (not necessarily concurrent) model was (I think) 16ft 10". At some stage Mike Vincent at SCM in Bournemouth purchased both sets of moulds and sold/sells the boats rebranded as 'Marina'…… the bigger one I recall being modeled as the ‘Corsican’.

When the Honda series got off the ground, I’m pretty sure a few of the 15fty ones were molded to begin a series with a 50hp???? Anyways, a few of the unused boats seemed to be around for-sale for a while. I can’t remember whom, but someone on this forum had one of the 15’s because I made him some 12” long RING decals for it.

Hope that helps.

Question Crash course

Hi came a across this site yesterday and am well impressed with it as it has answered a lot of questions I have had for while having as I have been off the boating scene since the mid 1993.

My appologies for asking questions which are already well known to you guys but I did trying digging around through the archives but things change and you sound like you would know....

Back then a lot of people either had or wanted a ring sports boat and still do. (Talk about the fastest 14 years of my life)

I know Mr Ring has long since stopped producing these particular models and the location of moulds is open to some debate.

ie if you want new then tuff - I think ??

Plan B was a phantom but I now understand these are no longer available too.

I have been watching Rings on Ebay for a while now - in fact I let a 16 - Miss Behave go the other day( looked a good as it did when it was new - I remember her!!- but the crack on the outboard frightened me off a bit but in the end it went for less money than I thought it would.

I guess what I am asking is what are my options.

I was thinking of 16-18 Ring or similar for ease of towing storage etc.

I did the classic car thing a few years ago so really do n't want a restoration project as I will not have that much time in my chosen profession.

Also I see a lot ex-race boats and highly strung motors which out of preference I would like to avoid really as all I want for now is to go fast-ish and ski ocasionally in a boat I like the look of.

Feel free to correct any of the above. Call me a poser etc

Finally what do you think of the boat in this thread - does it have a good enough pedigree and how much would it go for.

Thanx

I believe an Extreme 20 (updated version of Ring 20) will be forthcoming at some point, though not sure on timescales.

Thanx Docta -watching it now.

I was hoping to do some homework before I buy given the time of year but sods law and the end of the boating season means there a quite a few are around again.

Though I thought 4K for a hull an trailer was bit naff in the classifieds lately.

A new hull in the late eighties didn't cost much more..... supply and demand I guess.

Matt can you or someone explain the whole Extreme Marine thing as up until recently i thought these things were as rare as rockinghorse poo.

Is it still going?

If so an info?

Also am I correct in that there is some tie in with the cougar which in way does look like an updated Ring.

Like I say it's been a while and I have n't been able to do any research in the pubs in Salcombe for a few years where I found a lot of knowledge like this used to change hands.( That and looking enviously at someone else's new fad/boat.)

Check the link for the P18 in the trading post section. It's a friends boat and I would gladly reccommend it to anyone on Boatmad.
