what gearcase are ya running?
What speed is it blowing out at?
Run a sportsmaster box if ya can get hold of one. That should stop it.

got an old cle box at the moment i am on the lookout for a sportsmaster if you know of one??
Its a std shaft 20" 1989 XR2 with a 95 Powerhead.
My current g box has 2 water pickup holes underneath and 2 holes on top that are blocked.

80 Ish will do for a firt time out at the Monkey. Not sure how a tab would help with the blow out, take a bit off the steering though. Try a different thickness prop spacer if you can, race prop is a a thru or over hub? & type

Running with Yamaha high performance series overhub 24/26P 14"dia
Does the spacer want to move the prop fore or aft to help?
Dont know my actual speed as gps batteries went flat but was getting 70ish at only 5900 before i found the brave trim and lifter sticks!!
I have been reliably informed i can safely do 7k RPM. When she blew out (Stern walked about 6 feet very quickly with no warning!) it was just 6500 rpm.
I came straight back and replaced the ride guide for seastar pro 2.0 helm.
Sea trials dawn weds/thurs/fri.
With new GPS!!

Refer To Pm I sent Tomorrow
Glad you picked up on the steering, Crab angles & all that stuff. Trim you need to be sure of ya setting that affects it en all
Edit: which way did it walk, any RPM change?

I was always lead to believe the 4 hole cle was the fastest box of all, and if running high enough wouldn't blow until the 90's. That (obviously) ain't first hand experience on my part though.

Will try and call you tomorrow...been hectic every minute workin on replacing stuff like perished fuel lines, lifter seals, seat bearers, tilt seals, all control cables, MAking class compliant...fire ext..labelling..measurement..homologation.. servicing etc etc the usual!!
The PB1 is my Friend LoL
She walked to starboard but to me it just felt like max lift and like she just needed to fly...Like a kite! I guess at that point the prop will always walk as skeg looses touch with reality!
She was trimmed proper nose up the steps in the hull (Midships) Where well clear about a good foot, Probably 40 degrees of flat. I could feel her sponson dancin!!
No noticeable RPM change..defo not cavitation.
Hope i dont die

4 Hole is cle is fastest but blows out just before/early 80's. On a mono it does anyway.

if you talk to the american boys they will tell you a 2 hole cle is fastest due to less drag but they dont have the blow out ring like the later 4 hole cle's.
a torque tab wont help with blow out
hydraulic steering will give you less feedback than cable too!

We put a ring on our CLE which helped, but the sportmaster was faster for us so we gave up on that one! (don't get excited it's a 15"!)
