Trailer Axles Wanted
Hi all
Need a pair of braked trailer axles rated over 1200Kgs each.
and to fit under 1580mm wide trailer frame.
Don't mind doing a refurb job on them.
Or 4 seperate Suspension units.
Ta
Nasher.

Good thought, the larger vans must be quite heavy with all the central heating etc they have in them now.
I'll try in the morning.
Reason for the change is that I've discovered my RI...er... Boat and trailer probably come in at over the 1800Kgs that my current single axle is rated at.
This is after towing it up and down the South Coast for 2 years.
I do prefer the manouverability of a single axle but don't want to take the chance any more as the axle starts to get more rusty etc.

I thought about some FWD Van axles.
Trouble is the springs are above them(Cart or Coil), so you have to mount them far enough below your main frame rails to allow for some movement, so your main rails end up a long way off the ground and your C of G is raised. They also need to be very well located with swing arms etc.
The beauty of ready made trailer axles is you can bolt them solid to the main frame, the suspension is neatly contained within, and the wheels then move up and down alongside the main frame rails, keeping the C of G quite low.

yes i agree, but there bloody expensive,i was also thinking of not having any suspension too , as my journey to where i launch isnt very far.leaf spring axles would be a good choice as well

after taking your time and material costs into consideration (not to mention it's ability to stand up to a regular salt water dunking)
i think you would be far better of just buying something made for the job and spend the saved money and time getting it on the water !

A caravan breakes is a possibility, as most boat trailers use caravan axles, such as Alco Peak or Avonride

well my time costs nothing,(to myself that is),the trailer will be painted to match the boat and more than up for the job of regular launching,i work as a welder fabricator so materials are next to nothing, yeah sure it would be quicker and easier to just buy one but unfortunatly im not in the postion to do just that at the moment,so making my own trailer is the cheapest option for me,unless you have one, twin wheeled for £250-300????

Fair play ,but forget the van axle .. you would need a 45 degree launch ramp and a 50ft draw bar to get it deep enough to launch

Not such a stupid idea, it's what the majority of USA built trailers use, and they are so much better than ours.
Indespension sell them, along with suitable solid beam axles!
