is the counter rotation engine achieved by the gearbox, or does the engine physically spin in the opposite direction?

Shorly can only be the gearbox that makes it counter spin?

I had 'heard' that it could be timing, and starter... The only reason I didnt totally dismiss this was due to the fact it would make sense to have one gyroscopic effect cancelling out the other... I've never seen one so didnt know for sure.
