Would prefer it to be the right one? but if a normal one is suitable and would work then yes. My knowledge of these is limited as you probably guessed.......

Just do the same for all cylinders - whether that's WOT or not,. although you should get a higher reading @ WOT.
All should be within 5% - ideally should all be exactly the same.
I've got a fairly decent one you can borrow if you like.

They should all be with in 5 to 10% of each other. Test it with the throttle wide open as if you dont the readings may all be within the 10% (even wear on all cylinders) but they could still all be low and you would never know as you would put the low readings down to the fact that the throttle is closed!!!
Think XR2's are around about 135PSI (WOT) when standard!!!

XR2 135 PSI
I have never had an XR2 read that low.
I would expect to see 145-155psi

More like it - we used to expect 150 to 155.
Gap of no more than 5 psi bewteen highest and lowest compressions ideally - an absolute maximum difference of 10 psi, anymore and time for a strip down.

You can "aim" for whatever you want.
What you see might be completely different!

I did say "I think its around....". I've never owned an XR2 and was just makeing a guess based on other mercury pump gas race motors.
