What happened to the rest of the race? Too long for someone?

We simply could not get safety cover for the Skerries.

West Country folk - What would you do with them.

I know for a fact there were six safety boats offered for that area - not good enough for you?

ps You're welcome!

Martin Napier, (who has been collating all of the Safety Boats) tells me that he had the confirmation of 6 boats by email yesterday.

RYA Course Approvals (including the CTC Safety Net) was on August 8th.

It was a very kind offer, but sadly too late.

I have had a couple of calls from people wanting a sea survival course, and so far I have only located Andark who may be interested in doing it for enough numbers. Does anyone know of anyone else that needs one, or where else it can be done? (PS. I have one which I did just before last RB2008)

Bob, I understood from you, that you were racing elsewhere, so I did not include you in the CTC Safety plan.

We had to get all safety boat details finalised by last Wednesday, so while extra boats are indeed welcome, we had no option, as John has posted, but to concentrate our resourses into a smaller area where the boats were. Hence course runs from Portland to Teignmouth, then to Exemouth & back to Portland.

Martin

Your question was could I help with safety ? My reply was how many ? I have at least 3 boats and gave you a list of around another 6 I have since asked another 3 and as discussed was awaiting your reply and where they needed to be I have also spoken to another 3 that can come out of Poole and Swanage but alas all went quiet.
I was expecting a call maybe this week to confirm !!
I did as you rightly say mention that I may be racing in Guernsey that weekend but would have still happily arranged the safety this end as I have in the past.

Maybe next time !!

Bob

Maybe I misunderstood your message. Nonetheless we are where we are, & thank you anyway.
As you say, maybe next time.

I think Neil Holmes is now doing sea survival courses, I was talking to Jackie about it on saturday.

Doesn't the race rely on the drivers taking one look at the west country and saying feck that, we're off back to where we came from.

Your way you might start off with 40 odd boats never to be seen again.

Hi, never been on the start boat, usually watch on the water or in later years from Hurst castle, so I'm only guessing the start boat is caught from Southampton early in the morning, and then does it start the race and move to a location to watch the round the bay race or does it come strait back to Southampton or Cowes, many thanks
