Ringcat 22

For those interested the restoration on the 22 Cat is slowly coming together. Just the interior and rigging to do.

It's a great looking boat, what engine are you rigging it with?

This one will probably be the best one you will see.
There are not many out there, I would be surprised if more than 10 now exist.

I got the Cat rather than a 21 due to the fact they are so rare and I am now working to get it back to as new condition (With more than a little bit of help from Mike Ring and the guys at the factory).

However everything is for sale - at the right price!

There used to be one at littlehampton Marina in blue and red called 'so and so' used to have a 200 merc onit. And was owned by an old guy and never saw him use it with anyone? Went to the Marina about 6 months ago and it was gone. Anyways loved that boat ever since I was like 12

This is 'So-an-So'.

This is Ringcat hull No. 2 built by Mike for his mate who was then the sole owner until I convinced him to part with it earlier this year.

Over the 18-19years of it's life down in sunny L.A. the red had faded to a very dull colour. So a respray has been part of the refurbishment.

If my memory serves, circa 15K .
They were costly to build. On reflection , I should have gone for a 28 to 30 footer to sell for not a lot more

What was the inspiration for doing this cat Mike? Why do a cat, why 22ft etc i am intrigued.

Everyone can see the trademark lines in the deck but to venture from v to cat is a large jump is it not? Did you need much development work? I do like this boat alot.

Mike
I couldnt agree more!

I get more inquiries into a circa 30'er than I do on our 21`, and when all is said and done there probably isnt that much extra work in the 30. A few extra feet, makes no difference in time, cutting material, cores etc. Setting up vacuum bags... Time I dont think there would be much more, and material cost marginal.

Tony, whos building them now? And what are they offering for 15k?

Hmmm not so sure on that my self but stand to be corrected. i cant see any hull similarities on that cat... the spray rails and aesymetric design hull looks new from the ground up?

I saw that one on the drivers poker run and it went really well. i guess we just dont buy cats for pleasure craft in this country

Tone.
If they sell for 15 K now you can see that boatbuilding does not pay like being a plumber. Take the hours to design and build moulds and add the material cost to be amortised over a period , build and finish a boat to a good standard add up the hours and and multiply by a plumbers wages.....

The rest would be history and I would be retired on Mustique!

Chaos.
Wrong again, Go stand in the corner !

Renegade.
The idea was to gently lead our 21 owners into cat ownership and develop some larger boats. Unfortunately IMHO Catamarans are too sophisticated for English drivers and take a lttle more skill and understanding to get the best out of them but by far the most rewarding to drive. Not for your average skiboat owner. There has been too much emphasis on publicity of circuit cats looping and most boaters ( and their wives) would be very wary of cats.

Thanks mike. interesting idea but i can see where you are coming from. did you ever feel the uk waters were never suited to cats? But that maybe a silly question as you went ahead with the build.

Fair play too on having the balls to try these things.
