Did this a couple of years ago and found it very disappointing. We were not allowed on deck to take photographs as this was reserved for the press and the visibility through the windows was poor! Worst of all you cant here the petrol engines screaming!

Your better off watching from the shore in my opinion.

Reference your post quoted and safety expenses. Its worth pointing out that at Cowes this year there is no major sponsor. The costs of running an event in Cowes are unfortunately huge, the marina need a massive chunk.
Entry fees this year, whilst high, will not cover the cost of running the event. It is only happening due to the generosity of a few people who have given lots of time and money to keep the event on the calendar.
So any safety help is very very welcome.

Thanks for the reply's, so from what I can make out if I did get on the start boat I may not see very much, and it appears its back in Southampton while the CPC is finishing, so assuming the CPC boats run back past Hurst to the Cowes finish line that would be missed, and to make things worse I would be stuck back in Southampton and need to travel on another boat to Cowes whereby I would not be able to see the CTC fleet racing back, I would just get to see them in the pits - I think I am much better off going to Hurst and maybe bumping into Jon Holmes as I had some years back

I have to say from the other way around we had a great view of the Red Jet in Cinzano running down the Solent so I can't possibly see how anyone could complain !

Great to see the class B entries swelling! Still no sign of the big cougar Rib though. Anyone know if it is taking part this year? Would be a real shame if it was sat in Warsash and not in the mix....

Check before you book!

I was invited as part of a "VIP do" and was excited at the prospect of taking photos from the deck area. However, once we were away we were informed that only the "Press" would be allowed on deck which left everyone prisoner on a the ferry looking out of filthy salt encrusted windows whilst listening to the shouts of Joy from the Press group! I know that we were not alone in feeling very disappointed by the whole affair.

Obviously this is just my opinion but to attend an event that only takes place once a year and be trapped on a ferry with poor visibility and little sound tracks is not my idea of a good time!

I might be wrong and mis read the course but aren't the Torquay boats likely to be some distance from Hurst ,and nearer Fort Albert, on their way back into the Solent?

Thanks Rob, I agree looking at the course which appears to have changed over previous years, and now as you say it does appear most returning racers may be closer to the IOW side than the Hurst side, however most years I've watched from Hurst the racers have tended to run down the middle or closer to the deeper water of the Hurst side, so I am hoping that the racers will run down the middle of that narrow passage again this year.

It would be good to hear from the racers where they think they will run in the narrow Hurst straight on the return

Cfun, sorry I wont be there this year as i will be in the States for the Bristol Speedway Nascar Night time race that weekend. Would be nice to meet up at Hurst next year maybe. Its a great spot regardless of which side the fleet run.
