mercury prop sizes

aye up guys

I have a 7.5hp mercury on a 9ft dory but it won't plane when you build the revs up it feels like a clutch slip , someone said to me you need a higher pitch prop , the one I have on I think is a 8 3/4x7 just wanting some advice on what prop would suit best and where I can find a second one as I really don't want to invest too much into a motor that's the same age as me if you know what I mean .

thanks boogty

Sounds like the rubber bush has degraded in the prop. Send it to Steel Developments, they will replace bush for about £20. They also sell new props and are about the cheapest you will get f or a standard one.

well by the time you get your yellow avenger submarine floating I will have my dory re- gel coated orange and have rescue on the side because as soon as you throttle up that 200 or so hp mercury the transom will snap off but don't worry I will be there to pick you up

I made a prop puller up for this. Best way in my opinion as it minimizes damaged if you need to apply a bit of muscle.
