Miss Enfield 2!

I have just been contacted by the current owner of Miss Enfield 2.
It's been sitting in his barn for the last 25 years! One pic of it winning in 1971

Sounds as though he wants to re-commission it so that it can race at Cowes next year. How great is that?

Obviously I can't miss out on this opportunity of going to see it which I will next week.

Missed this pic.

Just love those guys in their caps, white trousers and Blazers. Forgotten times. They showed us how to put on a race without all the red tape we have today.

He'll have trouble finding 'The Legend' it's Coke cans, or a washing machine motors or something now.

Tony Hamilton weighed it in for scrap in about 2001.

Poor old Tony certainly has got a lot to answer for in more ways than one but not with the "Legend".

Steve "Hutchy" Hutchinson had it in his boatyard for about seven years and then HE sold it for scrap about three years before the RB08. He told me that he has been kicking himself ever since!!!

That's interesting, Tony had all the kit off it in his workshop at Merlin Quay around 2001/2, (Tabs, Gimbles, Drives etc) he told me he'd stripped it out and weighed the hull in.

OK, so maybe a little 'poetic licence' from Tony when he told me the story.

So " The Ledgend " as gone, now I think that was a better and quicker hull than a lot of the hulls that were running at the time, if only we had got away from the Jaguar engine's.
So where is the 38ft Bertram " Vision of Guernsey " that poor Tony stripped off all the wonderful gear it had on it. ????

That I believe is now back in the States. I think it went to Norway after TH had it (though I think tony did end up retaining the Mk4's, as Chris Vincent failed to cough up all the dosh when he bought it (same guy who had the ex Romans Sabre, renamed 'The Full Monty' for corporate use), anyway, was talking to TH a week or so back, and he reckons it's now in the States being restored.

Toleman's Bertram 38 is now in Germany with a collector, along with 'Rear Entry', Ray Macenhill's ali Peter Birkett/Malcolm Cole creation.

The Toleman/Steyvesant Bertram sat in Southampton for some years, renamed 'Ocean Thunder', owned by Alan Clarke, but he flogged it to the German fella minus power (but with drives) as he had bought a Cobra cat that he wanted to keep the motors for. TD has spent the last 37 years rigging the Cobra for him. Should be ready in the year 2525, if man is still alive.

Apparently, according to Tony Hamilton (he's getting quite a reputation isn't he?) and others, there is a German Doctor who collects Race Boats (he's got quite a collection) and he has that lovely classic 38ft Bertram that raced at Cowes in the '80's by Ted Toleman and "Smitty" Smith. Is that the one?

It could well be coming out at Cowes 2010 if rumours are true but we all know about rumours in this sport.

No it's not Ted's 38ft, it was call "Long Shot" and all black when Gerve bought it in the states, we rebuilt in Miami with all the best equipment you could buy and flew it back to the UK Gerve had some problems and Tony Hamilton ended up with it 1988 it think.

later than '88, more like 93/94. It was the 'logo' for the Guernsey races for some time before TH bought it. They wheeled it out each year and sat it on the grass at the top of the pits by the road. all the shirts and clothing at the time had a likeness of VOG in the logo.

Those were the days.

Yes your right, I was thinking more of the two years 87 & 88 when I rigged it and raced in the boat it was really quick. I have some photos with the dates87 88 on them.

Is this one here related to your discussion on Bertram boats

This I believe or thought was the one sold by a guy in the USA recently but appears not

http://uk.yachtworld.com/boats/2005/...092663/Germany

I thought it was related to this thread here but the boat in this thread is red which is strange as the last post says sold through yachtworld where this one is ...

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...tion-sold.html

Actual what is really strange there appears to be 2 Bertram competition boats one maybe in Germany and the other the USA both through yachtworld one white one red

Cool pics.

There were murmers that Gerve was going to make an appearance in the RB08, but he never materialised. Can't you chat him up into coming out again, or is racing history for him.
