BananaShark 34 build thread

I think the title says it all really - there is a thread in the Gallery of how we got to the design - http://boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13042

After considering the different ways of building the plug including getting a quote for CNC'ing the plug from foam in the Czech republic, we ended up getting the frame of the plug laser cut to our drawings by www.cut-tec.co.uk and the first stage went together very quickly - I think it's fair to say this is going to be the easiest bit by far!

The specs are:

34' long with an overhang for the inboard versions
7'4" beam
Twin step to a new design
Our boat will have Yanmar 260's driving ASD6 Arneson drives with a ZF63 gearbox
K Plane trim tabs
Smartcraft technology
BananaShark Suspension seating
Forward cabin will have a V berth and room for a small galley

Other options include 496HO's or 525's and a choice of drives from Bravo XR's, NXT's or Arnesons.

With the 3/4 canopy cockpit belts and air are optional although with the faster engine packages would be very highly recommended!

The first stage was to get a "level playing field", Kitten worked out where the plug would touch the ground (the cockpit roof will be added when the plug is turned over), and marked out the floor. Using a combination of lasers and levels he then fixed plywood squares to the floor all level with each other.

And then a bit more .............

With the framework done everything had to be made stable before anything could be covered.

The next stages are:

Cover the hull of the plug and affix spray rails where appropriate.

Smooth over the joins and holes, paint and polish.

Make a flange where the hull mould will finish.

Cover in gelcoat and glass to make the hull mould, stiffen.

Turn the plug over complete with hull mould and flange.

Fix Cockpit to plug and repeat process for the top half of the boat.

Split the mould and then start making the boat!

Of course there is a lot more to it than that such as making the dashboard and bulkheads as well as the hatch openings and hatches.

Jesus and I thought putting that balsa airplane kit together a few years back was difficult.

Very impressive.

Can't think why you would bother with a Hardboat version surely the Rib is where its at

Looks Great Cookie, the boat looks very sharp!

Must be nice putting that all together without having to cut it all first!

What material are the frames cut from? Looks black on the ends

Hydro and Glen - Paragraph 2 of the thread - and MDF!

Thanks for the comments - I will keep this thing going with updates on a regular basis and also about the other bits that go into the boat like the electronics, engineering and electrical systems.

It will also be on the Facebook BananaShark page and of course if the editor will print it in the Sportsboat and Rib magazine!

So which bottom have you used? that 'appears' to resemble the buzzi-esk design in the original renderings with the fine entry and lots of warp, I thought you were going to use the far 'blunter' looking design from the test model?

All looking very sweet.

It's the model's bottom!

It will be easier to see once some surface is on it ............

Are you sure? That model was really very blunt, distinctively so.

I can send you loads of drawings, and you can see for yourself, there are somr detail changes but basically it is the model bottom, I like model bottoms, I 've been looking at models bottoms for god knows how long now and trust me that is the models bottom, can I say models bottom again? I just like the image.

This is a great project like everyone else says

That rib image is the sort of design I always thought many manufactures should have adapted to their hard boat range such as the Ring 24+ range as an addition to their hard boat range and something other then the traditional rib look
