700xs Rebuild Thread
not much happened during 2010 with this project http://www.boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13359 mainly due to Cye starting this http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...-tuscan-Escort
Cye decided last autumn that he wanted to concentrate all of his efforts on the Escort which he is hoping to make the first race with this Easter so I took on the xs and stripped it as tbh i didn't like the quietness and seemingly lack of performance from the Evinrude. I'd thought i would get myself an old 260 again so sold the rude and started to look for an engine. Unfortunately I an accident and bought this!

The wiring is also 99% complete with just the batteries to fit and fuel pumps to connect, all the gauges are in too.

the motors are 280 blocks with the electrics ditched in favour of the 260 electronics coupled to a pair of Brucato PCU's. The port motor is also running a Simon motorsports alternator. The powerheads are happy hiding under drag cowls.

which brings me onto a fuel question, i have swirl pots with 4 outlet / inlets. the 2 bottom ones are easy as its fuel in and out but what about the top ones????
i seem to have potentially 3 things to do but only 2 pipes.
breather?? do i need one?
fuel return to tank? do i need one?
fuel return from motor? does it go back to swirl pot or back to tank?
pics arent very clear but i couldnt be arsed to unpack it all

That's freakin awesome!! Great work Burty!!
As for swirl pots, I'd assume one of the top fittings is for fuel return. Not much point putting it back in the tank if you don't have to. As for the rest, not sure!

I'd go back to the tank with the return. Merc used to say return to the filter but then recommended to return to the tank. I've always set the return up to the filter but on the Ring I fitted a glass bowl separating filter, and you should see the fuel in the bowl after a run! It's like milk with the froth!
Return to the tank allows the foam in the fuel to seperate before being fed back into the fuel system.
