Miss Speedbird

Hi Guys,
Anybody remember this old girl from the 60/70s ?
used to be called 'Tolstar' and was raced by Ian Toll
before she had the cabin put on and renamed Miss Speedbird'
and raced by Bob Attwood
Cheers
Gerry

Hello Gerry,
Great to see Miss Speedbird is still around. My Dad, Bob, raced Miss Speedbird in the 1970 CTC. Unfortunately, it blew its engine half an hour into the race. It was running a Mercruiser V8 in those days. While Miss Speedbird was being towed to Hamble, they got passed by the winning boat into Cowes! My parents are still looking for photo's of it. If they turn up, I will let you know. If you ever decide to sell Miss Speedbird, could you give me first refusal? Thanks.
Regards
Russell Attwood

speedbird

yes thats her,
have been in touch with the owner who was selling her,
he found her with no engine so put the motor and drive unit in
reckon she was fine in a straight line but a bugger in a tight spot
the drive was a lancing marine unit,
iwhen she came to Guernsey she still had the surface drive fitted
that was back in the nineties,
any chance you could scan the advert ?

I OWNED THIS BOAT IN THE 1980,S, AND SOLD IT TO PAUL WEBB, WHO PUT THE FORD , AND LANCING DRIVE IN IT, IT WAS OWNED BY AN AIRLINE PILOT, WHO KEPT IT AT RIBBS MARINE, RIVER AVON, CHRISTCHURCH, HE SOLD IT TO STEVEN BATH, OFF BATH TRAVEL,, I BROUGHT IT OFF HIM FOR £500.00. AND SLD IT TO PAUL WEBB, HE USED IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS, IT WAS THEN SOLD TO A MAN IN DARTFORD, KENT. BEFOR ENDING UP IN THE CHANNEL ISLES. IT WAS A GOOD OLD THING!. CHEERS, SHAUN.07811787849.

She's looking amazing, though I still think it looked better as 'Tolstar'!

Shaun,
nice to hear from you that's a bit more of her history that has come to light,
have been in touch with Bob Attwood (pilot) and Paul Webb and Ian Toll of Tolcraft who built her all those years ago,
still to finish her off yet, windscreen, inside the cabin etc
hoping to get to Cowes next year for the classic rally
will give you a call

SHE LOOKS GREAT !
I remember seeing her, without the cabin on, at scrutineering for the CTC Race, probably that was at Souters yard in Arctic Road.

COPC is involved in the world of restoration of old raceboats, obviously.
Miss Speedbird is an ex CTC raceboat, & I think one of our members involved in the restoration.

Certainly, COPC would be happy to hear from potential new members.
