Nice Ring 18 splash

This is a pretty good example of why splashing is so wrong!

Those splashed toobs on the RIB next to it didn't look too clever either!

I think it was built by the same chumps, as it was also based on a ring 18. The tubes were in 1 metre sections, sewn together!

splash

When we say 'splash' do we mean stretch or extend the mould?

No, we mean where someone has waxed up an existing hull/deck, and taken a mould from it.

Usually done without permission from the design owners, and by amateur boatbuilders. Although some of course are legitimate and good, even excellent quality (Mark Pascoe sport ribs for example)

It is possible to take a resonable quality mould from an existing boat, but it requires removing the rubbing streak, and parting hull & deck. Then making good any holes, damage etc in the original, then extending all the moulding 'edges' so that your finished mould tool will produce a moulding with trimable edges, and generaly making your plug (the original hull/deck) perfect so that no imperfections will be translated into the finished item, and of course ensuring that the whole thing is straight and true.

This little beauty appears to have been done without splitting the hull & deck! hence the dog-leg in the rub-rail that shouldn't be there. reckon it's probably a couple of inches lower than a stock Ring 18 as a result too.
And only taping over the instrument holes etc!!!??

Given this shockingly awful level of workmanship (typical of splashers) I'd bet it's as wonky as a wonky thing too!.

I'm sure TD will return with his 'pukka' camera and get some shocking pics for us.

This really is a pile of poo!

That's a big problem any old Bozo with a laminating roller thinks they can build a RIB!

Do you think that splash was a one off, surely they wouldn't consider selling things of that Kwalitee

Unlikely to be a one off, as it wouldn't be cost effective to build a mould and then a boat, cheaper to buy just a boat if you only wanted the one.

Well done for not rising to the Rib builder bait , bstd! But on a serious note I gets confused as to why someone would buy something as imperfect as that, or for that matter how somebody can sell it!

Or am I being obtuse!

I was chatting with Pete7 today. He said it took him fkkn ages to get the hull & deck to line up. And stitching those toobs together was a pain in the arse, specially when he jabbed it with the needle.
