Import cars from the US

Has anyone ever imported a car from the US before? If so how long did it take to get here? If its second hand do you still pay VAT? Also how many miles on the clock is second hand

I know tony imported his boat how much import duty did that attract tony?

I imported a used pick up truck from Texas. It cost $2,132 US dollars, although $700 was to get it from texas to the coast. I shipped from Baltimore to Southampton, and the voyage took 16 days, although it needs to be at the docks a couple of days early, and then it took 3 days to clear customs. It then had to be SVA'd, which took a further week.

the total costs involved were shippng, plus insurance at 1.5% of purchase price and shipping, plus 22% DUTY on total, plus 17.5% vat on final total...SVA cost £330 incl road tax and registration, if it had need the lights sorting that would have been an additional £150.

Duty on a car is only 10%. The other catch is that you can't claim the vat back on a F150 size truck, coz they can only carry less than 1 tonne in the bed!!!!
