Le Mans 1956

In honour of Aston Martin's victory today over the Corvette team (dammit) heres a quick tour around the race course in 1956.

Mike Hawthore is the driver and does the commentary. Since the practice lap in the D Type takes place before the race, the public roads are open. Interesting when he mentions "lots of traffic and bikes all over the place".

And the Brits are slow in a straight line. Check the drag records. Not only cars but boats. Oops, no drag boats in ole blighty.

PS And don't bring up the LSR. I'm sure if Art Arfons had been feeling better (and wasn't about 105 years old, he would have bettered Andy whatisname's supersonic record.

In reality no, but one would have to assume the residue would be in arc pattern.

Just got back from Le Mans Apart from the Aston's being quick they all finished.
Anyone who went did you manage to bury your motor and how long did it take to get out the camping sites. Worst year ever for us.

Having owned a Vet, I believe they have a lot going for them and a lot more going for them in the USA than many fast cars...the drag thing is exactly what I say to people who question it's performance...Ferrari got there ass kicked in sales terms back in the 90's when the old 355 went up against the C5 it brought nothing to the game but cost twice as much... now F430 up against the C6 Z06, again the Z06 kicks it's ass in many respects...and as for Aston...they were not in that performance league at all...sold on heritage and quality of fitments inside the vehicle, however reliability was a problem on many...and anyway they are also, or were american owned until only just, still the new baby Aston sounds and looks great there are one or two that pull up outside the shop...anyhow to Aston for le Mans
