The system
Needed to renew an insurance policy on a vehicle that had expired a couple of months ago, so I phone the company and explain that I'd like to renew, but I also need to add an extra named driver till the end of Feb. I tell that she is 23, with 2 previous claims, and the guy says no problem, but I have to renew first, then he'll transfer my call to customer services who'll add the additional temporary driver to the policy. We do the biz, and I pay by debit card.
After ten minutes of the usual questions, he put's me on hold whilst he transfers my call, 20 minutes later, i get connected to the wrong department, another couple of minutes and I'm through to a very unhelpful lady.
She takes the details, then says she'll get back to me in a couple of days with a quote. I tell her I need to know now, but she says this ain't possible, all the while I can hear someone in the background telling her what to say. I tell her to put the other person on the phone, and he eventually agrees to phone the insurance company whilst I wait.
10 minutes later he tells me that they won't accept the other driver, as they only do insurance for over 30's. I tell him thanks for wasting my time, and instruct him to cancel the policy. He says, no problem, but there will be a £60.00 cancellation fee.
After a few choice words from my self, he goes away to speak to his supervisor, who tells me that I have had cover for the last 40 minutes, and If I'd had an accident in that time I would be correct in assuming that the policy would have paid out.
I tell him that if I'd had an accident in the last 40 minutes it would have been because i had been talking on the phone to him whilst driving.
After 20 more minutes of back and forth with various supervisors etc, they decide to waive the charges as a sign of good faith!
After more phoning around, I found that this is the case with all insurance companies, but Elephant came through in the end!
Although that is another story!!!!!!

On a serious note Barry, (forgot to ask you last week), is it true that taxi insurance is going up due to third party claims i.e. whiplash?

Depends on your claims history experience and a good broker

Some old taxi driver took me to MK station last week and told me that story.
When I finished in '06 I was paying £800 on a 5 series BM.
Does the Post Code effect it?

Fleet policies work different. You don't get a no claims bonus they look at your past history over many years.
Also once your broker knows that your not going to put a prat in one of your motors there is more negotiation with them.
