Queensland and New South Wales have proposed rival bids to host the next Worlds. Queensland's venues are at Gold Coast Spit and offshore at Redcliffe.

Moreton Bay, Queensland has emerged as the current favorite. It would be the first time Queensland has hosted the Worlds.

Queensland

Is this where they run the rough water races off shore?
Wayne Mauyer's training area?

I would've expected the races to have been on the super quick river venues where the Australians must have been favorites. The Europeans don't like racing in salt water but our boats must be more competitive in the sea. Not worth taking a British boat to the Hawksbury.

there was never going to be any river races gary, u cant do an hour plus a lap on a point to point race mate.
but if there was, with all the speeds people talk over here, F2 would be a breeze for GB teams in a river race . . . .

Moreton Bay is amazing and will be good conditions for real worlds racing.
If the top F2 teams wanted to take a boat over im sure it would be competitive, most people do forget that it is infact a ski race.

Brooksy.

With a 20' Bernico hitting 103 Mph this week, some will hope it's flat all the way.

OK guys, obviously you couldn't run a 'point to point' Worlds race but don't think you have to run the B2B course. The Hawksbury is a massive expanse of water so don't tell me there isn't one stretch at least as wide as a canal, we've done two races at Eguzon which looks like a puddle in comparison.

Every host nation tries to select venues that they feel will benefit their skiers and boats (Genk in Belgium for example). If we had as many 125mph boats and skiers prepared to go behind them then would we have chosen Hunstanton to host our last Worlds. My point is that it would appear that the Aussie's are giving up a huge amount of home advantage by taking the races onto the sea. Conditions are always at least variable and if the wind blows in the wrong direction then it could become another Ramsgate (if a bit warmer). Most of their boats in all their classes are set up for very high speed running in flat conditions so it must make all the European boats much more competitive which again is not to the Australians advantage. I'm not knocking it but it just seems a bit surprising. It might also be that some QLD skiers on home water upset the usual NSW suspects.
And Wacky, fantastic achievement of Bob's to reach that speed but I would still be interested to know what the hull can achieve with an engine that would pass Worlds F2 scrutineering.

Worlds

I think that this may be something to do with the apparent turn around in AUS

92mph Average with standard 260 Efi so should be that+ with the 300XS !! I suspect Nico will have one on it next week !!
It really is an awesome boat.

The one that you were running would not last 2 minutes in a offshore race tho? Built very light for a purpose I beleive?
It is a quick hull, the yellow one that was at the worlds was very quick with a standard 250HO Rude on it.
300xs is not really a like for like comparision in terms of speed tho Bob.
Still like you say Nico will get it dialed in.
92 mph might work for a very light weight river boat to suit AUS.

Same construction as my 18 and provisionally built for OCR so more than strong enough for Ski Racing !! My 18 is 4 years old with no sign of damage. (other than collisions) Is the 300 Opti not as quick as a 2.5 EFI ?? Although they are only ever as quick as the Skier !!

I remember talking to Nico about a light weight F2 old version like mine that he was building at the time for lauren eagle (white boat) he said then that it would only really be good for river races and not offshore becuase of it's light weight construction (no floor etc).
Altho I do remember seeing it race at the 2005 worlds in Hunstanton.

As you have said only as fast as the skiier, problem is with these new green engines the speed is not there yet!
Not like F2 speeds of 2+ years ago.
I will be very interested to see what Nico achieves with a skiier on this new hull.
The yellow one at the worlds this year definately went well!

Is this your boat Bob or Nico's? are you going to run one next year?

Cheers
Cye

My Phantom 21 was 5 mph quicker with 300xs than my standard 260 EFI with a skier, and 8 mph quicker without. Speeds with a ported 260 with smilin' jacks front were up a bit over the 300xs. I only ever ran a modded engine for sprint racing as it didn't like it too much below 4000 Rpm. Speeds are down due to the change in hulls not the change in engines. Having not run a 250HO i can't comment on that engine when on the same boat as a 260/280.
