Quiet interesting looking at the rules for boats. I don't think it would be too difficult to still build a lighter / stiiffer / more expensive boat that would satisfy the rule - but not the spirit of it. Some of the processes used with the more exotic materials could still be used with more conventional materials. Also difficult to say where cored materials woudl fit in with rules.

Otherwise all good for a growing class?

sounds sort of similar to the super sport class over here with the exception of the two seat part. It is a great class that I am looking to getting into here. The nice thing is that racers do not need a lot of money to race since the motors can be run with manufacturer's warranty (no changes) so if you blow it up, you can exchange it.

I was talking to a guy that races this class yesterday, and his opinion is that the fitch, johnson and yamaha are better motors than the merc by virtue fo the merc having a "hard" rev limiter and the others being soft allowing you to push a couple hundred more RPM's out of them. I think he said the johnsons are better for the longer courses, the yamaha better for the midrange courses (but i might have that backwards). Anyway, he has not run a e-tech yet, but looking forward to it.

BTW, I am a die hard merc guy, not bashing them, just passing along the info.

Here is a promotional video done a couple years ago for this rthis class. http://www.screamandfly.com/video/ss_promo/ss_promo.wmv

Does anyone think there is a need for a new hull for this class?

We are working on a possible sportsboat project for a production customer, based on a new design. Would be looking at around 150hp and although it's main use would be as a sportsboat may just be of help if it had other uses. Could also be used for OCR racing.

If it gets the go-ahead we will be designing and supplying the moulds - but not building the production boats. Looking at launching the project for 2007.
